Post subject: | Waite,Fisher and The Loewe Factor. |
With the season fast approaching I hope that The Carlton brains trust have invested time in improving the kicking for goals skill of Waite and Fisher. Fisher is a better kick but must improve distance as he struggles from around 50,whilst Waite needs to improve his kicking overall.Stewart Loewe was one of the best when it came to improving his set shot kicking to the point where it can be argued he is the third best Saints player in the last 30 years after Plugger and Banger. If Stewie was available it would be worth bringing him down to help these 2 guys out because he went from one of the worst kicks in the league to a very reliable setshot. Fisher and Waite will be needed more often to finish off the business and there is nothing more frustrating than guys kicking points rather than goals.GO BLUES |

Fev should have a word to them, he's the best exponent of the set shot i've seen |

Actually, Fev might be a good choice, as he had a period where he was just about the least accurate in the league. Now he is an excellent exponent of the set shot. If it take 47 seconds to kick a goal, it doesn't matter. As long as it is a goal. |

Waite's accuracy was quite poor in the first half of last season (then again - who's wasn't?), but it improved appreciably and noticeably in the second half, by my recollection anyway. It may have started during the Hawthorn game where he kicked 5 goals. Towards the end of the year he was kicking some freak goals from the tight angles etc, and his set shots weren't too bad. Fisher's set shots have always been reasonable but his field kicking woeful. I think he and Luke Livingstone could have done with some one-on-one coaching on field kicking from a guy like Ang Christou or Braddles, who were absolute gems at the art. |

Loewe was a big strong man so struggling for distance was not an issue... He more or less tinkered with his style, instead of remoulding it completetly you would think.. |

Jarrad Waite 36.23 (2005) 7.9 (2004) 11.12 (2003) Bradley Fisher 13.8 (2005) 16.9 (2004) 18.5 (2003) Waite's definitely improved his kicking. |

Today at training with all the senior players disappearing into the tunnels as soon as training had finished a few of the kids stayed right back for kicking practise... Jordan Russell was one of these... He was having kicking practise at goals from about 35 out.. he missed about 4 straight.. he then got closer and closer till he was missing them from 20 m straight ahead.. With one person i know knocking JR for his shank/floaters from point blank.. i was furious.. furious that he was out there on his own with no senior players or coaches but a dozen other first and second year players. JR was not kicking through the ball.. and you can see he was getting confused.. and then devastated by the yips. Would have been nice to had a captain/ vc out there to just steady him down.. and tell him to just kick through it instead of guiding it. I hope if he is 20 out from directly in front he kicks it on saturday.. and doesnt think back to today. Just illustrates to me why we have nothing happening around the club..not too many people care. JR is one that does. |

Are you serious? Who misses a goal from 20m out, let alone missing when no-one is on the mark? The Auskick kids aren't allowed goals if they kick it from the centre and it goes through for a goal (about 20m). Happens quite a bit too. |

Most the kicking drills have been field kicking. Dont get me wrong, there has been some but not a whole lot, and when there has been shots at goal most of them have been Eddie Betts. |

So where were the better alternatives? The guys who aspire to be captain? Its like bagging the current board, there's no point unless someone else is putting their hand up. |
