Post subject: | The Offsiders ABC & Carlton Comments |
Anyone see this 'B' grade sports program the ABC has delivered the last 2 weeks. Here's what they had to say in relation to Carlton this week. Discussing the NZ Warriors Rugby League salary cap infringements... Host Barrie Cassidy..."Are we likely to see similar penalties that were handed to Carlton a few years ago?" Roy Masters..."Well I think they will be more severe than Carlton's - who were penalised draft picks - the NRL doesn't have a draft so they will be starting the season -6 points and given the eveness of the competition yuo'd have to say their chances of having any bearing on 2006 would be minimal". The 3 other journalists on the couch had no comeback to that....are we to take them seriously? I would have loved to have started 2003 on -6 points....I don't care if the guy is a RL journo - he should know that penalising draft picks would have buried some clubs...and has hurt our club for a decade. B.C - "Can we take the NAB Cup seriously - I mean the fact that Carlton won it last year surely means that we can't take it seriously" Honestly...of course the focus is on rnd 1...but this is just Carlton bashing using my 8 cents a day and I'm not that impressed. |

Don't worry about those sort of D Grade Sports Journalists comments. Worry about the comments by that lying hypocrite Chairman of the AFL (Ron Evans) when he makes throw away lines about Carlton's Serial Salary Cap cheating. Ask Ron what he was in charge of when he was President of Essendon*. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Well said Doc, I wouldn't have minded starting 2003 with -60 points if it meant unfettered access to the draft. Better to be in the wilderness for one year instead of 4-5 which appears likely to be the case. This type of punishment for our breaches was argues by quite a few post-Black Friday. Hardly a harsher penalty though as Roy mentioned, but he's a bit of a nong anyways |

Roy Masters also mentioned that EVERY club but 3 has been caught over the years cheating the salary cap in rugby league. How many teams are there in tthe tackle and pass 1 metre game? 15? 16?... So the vast majority of clubs have been doing it. But in the AFL it is completely different of course. ![]() Carlton is the only club that has ever cheated the cap by a large amount. All other clubs have been very good. I don't believe Essendon*, melbourne, adelaide, hawthorn, brisbane or st kilda have ever cheated the cap - Carlton are the only bad guys. Show me the proof that the other clubs cheated! In fact - i would like another fine for carlton just to remind the public that carlton are the bad guys. Booh ... carlton...cheats Carlton.. every one else is cleaner than a bath full of jif. |

Show me the proof that the other clubs cheated! That super AFL Investigator Ken Wood is working assiduosly on getting that proof as we speak. ![]() If only he could find a gutless, gormless, worthless and washed up footballer with no hamstrings to go states evidence. ![]() |

Surely that would've been a much more appropriate punsihment given the people (players and officials) who did the deed have all but gone. Maybe -20 points and last pick in the draft regardless of position they finished on the ladder. No real thought went into the punishment - it was vindictive to Elliot and we're the ones left to suffer its consequences and pay the bill- typical AFL crap admin. *sob* Is the "Great Depression" ever gonna end?? |

I dont think they would have liked us guaranteed of getting both Adam Cooney and Andrew Walker in the 2003 National Draft. ![]() In an odd piece of irrationality on the AFL's part we were not stripped of our Priority Pick in the 2003 National Draft but were stripped of it in the 2002 National Draft. ![]() |

![]() They probably thought 2002 was an abberation for us and we wouldn't qualify for a PP in 2003. |

Oh, seeing as news may not have filtered down to Mexico, who wants to know how savagely the Warriors were dealt with? ![]() They will start the season minus two wins (4 points) and have been fined $430K. Nice one Roy. ![]() ![]() To paraphrase Australia's Next Top Model contestant Eboni … "You're a @#$%&! head Roy Matsers!" http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,86 ... 14,00.html |

Don't get me started on this again. How the f**k can you punish someone after "the process" has started and in many ways ended. Ofcourse I am talking about trade week/draft. Draft Pick punishments should have started the following year. I know what was done and said behind the curtains, but what if we had traded our top picks (1 & 2) away? |
