Marc Murphy's February Diary

Quote:
Intra-club match, Princes Park, Friday February 17: We were all addressed by Denis (Pagan) in the rooms beforehand, then the sides went off to prepare separately with (assistant coaches) Barry Mitchell and 'Libba' (Tony Liberatore). It was 'probables' versus 'possibles' and I was named in the red team, the 'probables'. When I saw most of the senior players were in the red line-up as well I was pretty happy. It was my first four-quarter match at senior level and I didn’t get as much of the ball as I would have wanted, but I think I did a few good things. I swapped on the ball and in the forward pocket with Eddie Betts - Eddie and I played similar roles in the Vic Metro team back in 2004. I felt like I ran out the match pretty well, but it was a hot and steamy morning and I had the chance to rest in the pocket.

What a great read!!! I hope he keeps doing this, very frank and honest, just the kind of thing to keep punters like me interested. Well done MM!!

If there's one main lesson that I've learnt over the past month, it's that good players excel at defensive work. You may not be involved directly in the play, but you can still have a bearing by doing the hard things - tackling and chasing - and you will get into the game.

I wonder where he learnt this from? :P

MM will be doing this on a monthly basis all year. In addition, Kouta will be writing a weekly piece for Carltonfc.com.au as a 'Contributor' along with other Carlton legends such as Mike & Dan, the Ghost, Blue Skies and the Buzz. Oh, and FootyGeek too. In fact, Kouta will share the Contributors page, and will start writing later this month.

Man this kids is great, finally someone that can write a bit.

Gotta love that he is given free reign over what he says. His honesty is awesome. Love the respect that he has for Lance too. Shows that for all our watching and complaining about Lance, he really does make a difference to the team out on the field, whether he is getting the ball or not.

Also like his humble attitude.

Hope MM has a long and brilliant future with the Blues as with more people like him at the club, the richer we will be.

Agreed. He comes across as very level-headed and aware of the hard work ahead of him.

Good stuff!

It was such a good read that my first question was whether he had a ghost writer.....

I skipped the first couple of articles from Marc, but if he's allowed to provide that big an insight, I'll read all year.
