Post subject: | Blues let club down: Teague |
http://carltonfc.com.au/default.asp?pg= ... eid=250094 Quote: Carlton defender David Teague has said the club's playing group was devastated after the Blues went down to Port Adelaide by 99 points in their NAB Challenge clash at Princes Park last Saturday.
Teague said the loss had a huge impact on the players. "The playing group was pretty shattered on the weekend. They let themselves down and the club down," Teague told afl.com.au. "A group of 40 blokes are the only ones that can really represent the club, and when you're part of that and you let them down, it's really disappointing for us, especially with the history and it's such a proud club. "I think all the players were disappointed and even a little bit embarrassed with the outcome and we've got plenty of time to work on it. Last year we started great and then faded away, but this year we'll do the opposite and build as the year goes on." Teague simply believes the lack of pressure applied on Port Adelaide was the reason for the shellacking. "They handballed a lot, and teams that can handball a lot, obviously we're not chasing and tackling the way we should be, so the basic things we've got to get right - winning the ball, being a bit harder and putting on a lot of pressure," Teague said. Although it was a practice match, Teague said the players still had to learn from their mistakes. "More than put it behind us, we've got to learn from it and it's something that's happened now," Teague said. |

I think that's a great article - very pleased to see it. I think if we'd seen it earlier in the week, it would have been good at calming the tensions that have been around about the prospects for this year.... |

Is Kouta still around Carlton? Didn't see him Saturday and haven't heard from him this week? |

Given everyones been negative for some time now I find that quite positive. I remember a team not so long ago who were so embarressed by a hiding handed out to them they went on to win three premerships straight. I should probably law of the wacky tabacy now. |

They had the chance too redeem themselves at quarter time, and chose not too. How many times have we heard this after 100 point losses during the regular season. We expect a more competitive display all the time!! I expect my captain too be out there more, be more assertive, see his face more on the TV and be doing everything in his power too show me that he wants this all turned around. I hope that happens. |

I'm with you, mate. I don't want to hear about how sorry we are, boo hoo - just change your f__ing attitudes!! I'd prefer they kept quiet and showed us this week, or R1 that they mean business. Saying sorry doesn't fly anymore. |

Oh for gods sake!!!! ...the team is gonna get consistantly pulvarised physically and on the scoreboard if they don't make a stand and show a bit presence. Dare I say it, but "IT'S TIME TO DRAW A LINE IN THE SAND" for our leaders and senior players!!! Stop being wimpy softcock pussies and fly the flag!!!! ...Kouta, Barney, Stevo, Teague, Livo, Scotto, Lance, Prenda, Fev show some presence and lead for christs sakes. STOP ROLLING OVER AND BEING SO GODDAM SOFT!!!! IF YOU'RE GUNNA LOSE MAKE THE OPPOSITION REALLY EARN THEIR WIN!!!!!! DON'T ROLL OVER!!!!!! |

Budzy I dont think anyone on this site could be unhappy with your comments. For those that want us to show leadership and some ticker they would be happy. And for those who feel our youth need more opportunites they will also be happy after all our leaders are suspended ![]() And at least the opposition will think twice about trying to intimidate us. |

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat? You mean you would prefer for the players to show no remorse and have no belief that their attitude and commitment will improve? Give me a break "Mr Cloudy Day". I know we aren't going to win the flag this year. Stiff shit. We have never won the flag every year. No one has and no one can. That's a fact of life. The same goes with making finals. There has been a huge change in the make up of the ladder in just the last 2 years to understand this fact. 2 years!! There's 4 years left in the 00's. We have won at least one flag in each decade since the 60's. We were spolit in the 70's and 80's. At one stage in 1989(?) we were second last and fighting to avoid a wooden spoon, and came back and played the '93 GF, won the '95 flag and played in the '99 flag when no one expected. That's the way things go in Aussie Rules for every club. We still may achieve a flag in '09, who knows. Other teams will grow old and tire, then there's injuries that can expedite the changing of the guard, whilst Carlton slowly rebuilds. I remember thinking not much about Kouta in 1993, and then he goes and does what he did in the '95 GF; one haded. How does anybody know that some of our kids are not going to do the same. Nobody knows this! So do the healthy thing, say where improvement needs to come from, suggest how, and live in hope. Always live in the hope that our day will come! It has been mentioned and agreed, over and over again on TC since the Geelong game, that we most likely wont make the finals, but at the bare minimum of the acceptance scale, a stirring committment from the players to give supporters some pride and good entertainment will suffice. Acknowledging what the supporters have been saying about their effort on the weekend's PRACTICE game is a good start, and something we have expected. That's what I want to hear....that they are hurting, that they know they let the club down, that they know Carlton is a proud club, that they have something more in their tank, and that they will show the committment we expect of anyone that wears that famous old dark blue jumper!! Adversity will bring about great things to all Carltonians. We can't go further back than where we are. My only gripe now is that I want to hear something from our captain...Kouta where are you? Once he speaks out and shows some leadership, even that issue will go away. I wont allow my gripe fester. You're not gonna bring me down Mr Cloudy Day. THE EMPIRE WILL STRIKE BACK!! |

I'm with Budzy...as John Kennedy said in a GF " dont talk" ..."do" or something along those lines.....at the moment we draw a line in the sand and then some senior players rush to hide behind it.....I can take losing but not when we give up or let other teams abuse us physically and we go the wimpy route of not flying the flag.....good on Budzy for telling it like it is...can we actually get someone to fly the flag for their teammates and crash a pack, show we are still contesting? You look at the first game and you see Pickett and Miller in the Melb team and you know they are going to try and pick our blokes off.......lets make a stand that game and say even if we lose we are not going to let ourselves be bullied and mugged by those two or anyone else....show some pride and spine.... |

I wouldn't be playing Fisher either and Whitts and Stevens would only get a minor run. Eagles have plenty of pace and whilst it's a praccy and not many (WCEs) are going to throw their weight around, playing all of the younguns would be the best option. Are the bullants playing?....there may be more interesting stuff going on there..... |

bondiblue wrote: You mean you would prefer for the players to show no remorse and have no belief that their attitude and commitment will improve? No - I want them to show me their fairdinkum when they run out on the ground. I don't believe they should appologize for anything yet, but when they run on in R1 I want them to have a crack - no appologies, no excuses - or they can shut the door on the way out. I'm with Collo 100% on this one (for the first time). I'm glad we've left Kouta, Lance and Barny out of tomorrows game - they won't have to carry the team for once. Teague, Prenda, DeLuca it's up to these blokes to prove they deserve to be there. |

As much as i agree with all said ..... I would much rather we show something during the season. Lets keep it in perspective we got thumped in a practice game... |
