Post subject:  Best line up for Round 1

To get back to football on the field I would like to know what everyone thinks would be our best line up for Round 1?
How many new players are in with a chance?
Will Murphy start in the seniors or get a couple of games in the reserves before making his appearance?
Who is going to be in our back 6?
Is Whits going to play CHB or as a sweeper across half back?
Are David Teague, Bower, Livo, Hartlett, all fighting for the third tall backman spot?
Will Setanta and Deluca be fighting for a spot up forward?
Will we go with Waite Fisher and Fevola as the three key forwards?
Will Barnaby and McLaren rotate off the bench or in the pocket?
Could Fish play as a rotating midfielder?

its a tough task to pick a starting 22 .. !

i reckon murphy will play .. cant really see a reason not too

hartlett should play .. probly teague ahead of livo

shame bryan cant get a go either ..

mclaren on the bench

jeez ..wouldnt an upset win over the demons be a buzz !

the way the press are bagging us you'd think we will never win a game .. i think there will be some suprise wins this season .. despite the doom and gloom

.. go blues ..

Murphy and Mclaren will be the new players....Saddington would also play if he wasnt injured.
Mclaren will play off the bench and give Bananaby a rest....they will both rotate of the bench cant see either of them playing forward...
Fisher in the midfield..no...someone likeByron Pickett, Brad Miller will run through him and break something...keep him forward and out of harms way....
Walker will tag probably Roberston, Travis Johnstone,Bruce or Yze...need 4 Walkers
Whitnall..get the weakest tall forward(not too tall) and play his Jason Cloke pretend CHB role..
Livo...Bullants
Bryan... Bullants then seniors then Bullants etc etc etc
Deluca ..seniors then Bullants then seniors etc etc etc
Setanta ..seniors
Hartlett..I'd play him but the selectors may not...I'd play him on Miller.

I think we can kick a decent score vs Melbourne but its going to be hard to stop them kicking goals....players like Bruce and Robertson seem to tee off against us and we have trouble with matchups....got a good midfield have the Dees and Pickett gives them some spice....

Something like this, not necessarily what I would pick,

Carrazzo Thornton Hartlett
Walker Whitnall Lappin
Houlihan Bentick Scotland
Waite DeLuca Fisher
O'aHailpin Fevola Betts
French Koutoufides Stevens
McClaren Simpson Murphy McGrath

Livo has to play if his only bitch in Neitz is playing and this would allow Tbird to match up on someone he is more suited to.

It might muck up the set up Denis has been planning, but Russell has to play since the Demons have so many tall quick runners and medium forwards. Teague will look as slow as a wet leek trying to catch or match up on all their running players.

My team for round 1:
B. CARRAZZO LIVINGSTON TEAGUE
HB. LAPPIN THORNTON McGRATH
C. WALKER STEVENS SIMPSON
HF. WAITE WHITNALL HOULIHAN
F. FISHER FEVOLA BETTS
FOLL. FRENCH KOUTOUFIDES SCOTLAND
INT. McCLAREN MURPHY BENTICK BANNISTER
EMERG: RUSSELL DELUCA BRYAN

I have released Whitnall & Walker out of the backline.
I just think we need to become more attacking and not be so defensive in our game plan. With Whitnall, Lappin & Walker all in the backline it just sends out an very negative message that we are there just to defend and stop our opposition from kicking a big score.
We need to put faith in Livingston and Thornton that they can do the job.
Obviously Saddington I have left out due to injury.
I have left out O Hailpin & Hartlett as I really do not think they are ready for the big time. Blackwell I could not include given that Bentick is in the side. We cannot afford to have too many slow runners playing at Telstra Dome.
Bannister is an interesting one. I know most people have scratched his name out, I just think that we need a player that can run all day and at the same time can put a tag on the opposition star midfielder.
We do not have a specialised tagger like every other side and I think he deserves another go. He had limited opportunity last year after finishing top 10 in the B&F in 2004. He is versatile also so if need be we can put him in the back half.
As long as Prenda, Wiggins, Longmuir and Davies are not in the side I will be happy.

Too many smalls in the above lineup. Especially in the back half. I'm a big fan of the one mjonc posted in another thread which is essentially identical to this one :\

C: Kade Simpson, Nick Stevens, Ryan Houlihan

R: Barnaby French, Anthony Koutoufides, Adam Bentick
Int: Dylan McLaren, Andrew Carrazzo, Heath Scotland, Setanta O'hAilpin

Magnificent mix of size, speed and positioning. If Hartlett is having trouble, bench him and restructure the back line with Whitnall and bring Santy on. Midfield is starting to look nice, here's hoping they can be accountable. The rotations are good too.

I'm scratching my head as to where Bower would fit in - a lot of promising talls already in the team. Good team on their given day, but naturally I'm overestimating them.

As long as they pick senior players who won't roll over but instead lead the way & don't give up & go into bat for our youngsters I'm not too fussed who they play in Rnd 1. Just make the opposition EARN every score they get!!

No need to worry about Davies. He made himself ineligible until at least rd 5.

If Bannister can't make the squad for any practice match I don't fancy his chances.

re: Bannister...is what we need vs Melbourne in terms of speed and size...
Its players like Roberston and Bruce that destroy us....both are that odd matchup in terms of pace size and marking power.
Roberston is too strong in the air for your average size defender but too quick for a bigger player....Bruce is also a very smart mover for a player of his size and they both know where the goals are....players like Teague, McGrath cant cope...I would have played Bannister vs Port and also vs West Coast and tried to get some confidence into him...we have to find out if he can make it as a senior player and this season.
I just dont get the selection policy sometimes with certain players..

Selection Criteria:

1. No good
2. Injuried

If any of the above, exclude from squad. :P

I think you can at least say our list now offers some flexibility now, and slightly more competition for places in the side, which should be a good thing.

Before I forget - anyone up for knocking up a flash (as in macromedia flash) team board for this year's list? :)

Russell Roberston and Kent Kingsley - shit me no end. As soon as you sit down with your Footy Record, just mark in 6 goals for each and just add from their, it saves time.

Agree Agro...absolutely shits me that !

Don't mind getting creamed by Hall, Tarrant, Riewoldt or even Lloyd (did I say that)...but these crap players like Kingsley and Robertson and Medhurst get away from us and wipe us out of the game!

We should and do have the players to at least curtail these guys influence and provide some support as well.
