I thought I'd just start a new thread about Walks cause he has copped heaps over the last two seasons from a lot of people (including me on occasion) and I thought he had a really good game tonight. So you've gotta pay both ways.

AND I thought, on balance, that his disposal was looking better which is great to see.

Go Walkers, you're gonna be a champ :P

Still working towards consistency but is almost bursting at the seams. One day Pagan will unleash him on the midfield and he'll go nuclear.

He has a special touch - the ability to make you go "wow" when he has the ball.

His defensive pressure was great. He was getting to contests you just thought were gonna be easy Melbourne marks.

Very good game from Walker, turned defence into attack on many occasions by creating pressure from nowhere. Won some great contested ball with clean hands.

Ready to take on the Andrew McKay role from the half back line and run the ball through the lines - dare I say, quicker and better in the air, and nearly as strong. 8)

I will give credit where its due. I thought it was walkers second best game for the club. After being a bit loose in first quarter he tightened up and was magnificent. Kicking needs to be a bit lower and more accurate (has a tendency to do a Mil Hanna stab pass) i.e. he loops the ball.

But AGRO i have to take you to task re your comparison to macca. if walks is half the player Macca was we will be blessed. macca was the best half back we have had in fact i rate him above Hunter and if carlton team of century was done now he should make it.

well done andrew on a great game

Loved Walker's game tonight. He had good defensive pressure and initiated some fine attacking moves with good fast running and nice long kicking. It shows that he has really worked hard in the off season and is now gaining some confidence with his play. Good on you Walks!! The future is looking good. :-D

500 posts, yay!!!

Loved his game - maybe all the stuff about Murphy has relieved some of the pressure on the other great white hope. Great work ethic and coolness under pressure.

I was down on him after his first quarter as he constantly looked rushed and made some mistakes. Sylvia looked composed and damaging and I felt like we may have picked the wrong bloke for the first time. To walker's credit he came back into it, seemed to relax and his skills shone through. I don't whether it's the pressure of supporters, expectations of the club or just the pressure andrew puts on himself but he needs to find a way block it out and get to that state of relaxation and perform the way we all know he can - the way he did in the second half. I think Murphy coming to the club will be a great help if it can deflect some of the attention and pressure. Here's hoping they both have a great season.

Walks had another HUGE pre-season so todays game was a great reward for his brilliant effort. Now that he has developed that defensive string to his bow he can unleashed his offensive game when the time is right.

A year or two at HB running like the wind out of the backline, then look out in the midfield. He will rule that midfield for 10 years with Murphy

Walker has shown good signs over the last two years as a young skinny kid playing against stronger men. Round 1 2006, he has shown all of us what he always had, but his strength in body and mind suggests that he is now a man. His defensive game is all quality; speed, strength and smarts.

With so many Carlton supporters confident in his ability to play midfield, anticipating the day he is let lose, and following his display against Melbourne in defense, this guy is ready to play anywhere for us now.

Walker you little beauty.

yeah, and i'm glad we took walks, it was just that first quarter that had me worried. I look forward to AW's year, i dont care if he doesnt get a run in the midfield - I hope he can eventually play the Chad Cornes, Adam Mcphee half back role and he definately showed signs that he can in the second half

Just wonder where all the critics of Pagan have gone. He copped it so much for being "too defensive" with Walks but yesterday showed how the change of position can really help not only him, but the team. Walker is big enough overhead to knock the ball away yet fast enough to pressure his opponent and break free and make an option moving forward. His two biggest deficiencies at the moment, holding his marks under pressure and losing his bearings when he has the ball, are not nearly as apparent when he is given a job to do.

Well done Walks ... and well done Pagan!

Good post this and at least broke even with Davey and used pace to back himself and run - does leave his man and do the team thing
Remember this guy is still only 19 and the sky is the limit with him
Patience with young players - good idea that

Geez he works hard. That's the part I really admire about him. Really runs hard (no jogging), throws himself into contests and consistantly gives 110%. A definite favourite of mine.
