Didn't play all that well, but kept on persevering until the end. Fev was great. Houla was again good in the middle. Walker was good and his disposal was the best I've seen from him. The team's kicking in general was very good.

From where I was sitting (in Melbourne!), the problem seemed to be our inability to control the ball when it was in our hands. Lots of fumbling, lots of unnecessary spilling, and some poor handballs, and they all seemed to end up in Freo hands. Also I guess you're never going to beat Freo, if you don't beat them for contested ball.

They also paid us the compliment of physically and aggressively 'targetting' us early on. It's been a while since teams have bothered with any of that stuff against us.

The major positive for me was that we fought it out till the end. While im sure last year this would have been one of those 100 point thumpings.

Go blues!!

The knock downs to Houla and Fev, fired them up.

FEV IS A BIG BIG POSITIVE. 6 goals. Great stuff boy.

They had a crack after a poor start - cant ask for more than that- The pressure of Freo this week would have had them fired up- We took the game up to them after the first.

We done Blues

After a poor 1st qtr, great to see that we regrouped and gave it a good shot even though it was a scrappy game.

It frustrates me that we never man up!
Stevo - one example

Got to disagree with this. Along with not being able to get the ball in the first place, I thought it cost us the game. 80% of the time we went forward we butchered the kick.

I thought we hit a lot more targets with our kicking than we usually do.

I thought our defenders did a good job on Pavlich and McPharlin. Well done to Thornton and Whitnall.

Poitives: Clearly a better team then last year. No wooden spoon this year! The young guys are improving and Murphy will be as valuable for us as Deledio was for the Tigers last year.

Really this is what I expected from this season. At this stage I am expecting to finish somewhere between 10 and 14 with far less floggings and more wins. Fine with me. Expecting we will challenge for finals next year.

After trailing by 8 goals early, we would have lost this by 100 points in the last few years.

Thornton was sensational again...2 weeks in a row where our bogey players (robertson & Pav) have been kept quiet..

Liked Walker out of defense, Lance was good as were Fev, Houla, Bentick. French & Mclaren work well together and we could have even put McLaren at CHF as ADL gave us nothing. Speaking of ADL, he surely cant get a game next week. I would rather Bryan or if Josh is ready to go, give him a crack.

On a downside Kouta's disposal was woeful, Scotland & Stevens were both terrible. I suppose that we could take that as a positive though, that had 1 of them fired, we could have pinched this one.

I also liked the way we fought it out until the end, previous years a 10-12 goal loss would have eventuated

For the most part, it was our kids that stood up and performed well. A very good sign.

Even though it felt like we lost by 15 goals and not 15 points, Our ability to turn around what last season and years before would have become a train wreck of Richmond style proportions was good.

Walker's confidence to take on off through the middle was great.

We scored 11 goals to 8 after quarter time.

Murphy found out what hard, physical footy was early - and responded later in the game rather than going into his shell.

Hell, if you'd have given me a 15 point loss to freo in perth before the season, I'd have paid cash.

Much better signs after half time, definitely.

Haven't seen so many younger players in the top 6 possession getters- Houla, (Kouta, Whits), Bentick, Walker, Carrazzo (all > 20). Good signs for the future.

Last year that would have turned into a flogging. Full marks for sticking at it.

A positive that is also a negative when you look at the influence on the game that the senior players displayed.

I'll say it again though, much impressed by Walker, Carrazzo, Livo and Fev.

Stevens has to have >15 & Scotland >18. Especially when we're losing. If they had it might have been a different story.

Wasn't Livo on the bench for much of the game?

Agree on all of those but Livo?? McPharlin took him to the cleaners in the first half relegating Livo to the bench for all of second. Maybe you mean Thornton?

Yes, Livo. He was beaten on the lead a couple of times, but that's understandable given the Freo midfield's dominance. Having played in the backline for most of my inauspicious career I know exactly how a backman can be crucified by lack of midfield pressure.
