Hypothetically...

Who would be the best coach for Carlton in 2006 and beyond?

2006 - Pagan. I don't believe in changing coaches mid-season.

Beyond - Depends who's available. If a better option than Pagan arises then you'd have to in the very least consider it. Someone like Voss would be great, but I'd like to give him a year or two out of the game first.

Voss could be good. Look at Worsfold, hard and a real leader (we bloody had him too)

Maybe Voss.

I agree, dont change now but soon...maybe?

Not neil Craig.

We need some one who represents the club properly.

He might be a good coach but he is not Carlton.

Longmire is interesting.

A good coach will do me fine especially with his credentials. Although i find it very unlikely that he will leave Adelaide

He would never leave Adelaide.

I reckon he will be there for a long time.

Will Silvagni ever coach at carlton?

A coach that represents "carlton" is one that gets us wins

what more do you want him to do? Go on the Today show and do the Macarena?

I'm securely in the Pagan camp but for the sake of discussion if we did replace him I would want a proven coach with premiership credentials ... Malcolm Blight.

Forget Silvagni, we don't have enough paper bags for him - he would probably become coach and leave halfway through his contract just like his efforts on the board.
Like the idea of grooming Ratten though

Pagan is a good coach but it seems as if he may be loosing touch with the new game.

Ratten is a great idea.

He represents all things that we are missing at the moment.

Ratten is absolutely worth thinking about.

Silvagni was set up to fail though.

He was stupid to get involved wqhen he did, I dont reckon he was ready to be a board member.

Voss to be appointed as assistant to Pagan at the end of this year. Voss to become coach upon Pagan's departure.

Voss is a leader. He will demand respect. Not too enthused about getting ex blueboys back. Too much baggage at the minute - they'll need to wait a little longer.

If we agree with this, then why set him up again to fail? I don't think being a great player is a qualification for being a great coach. SOS not ready not yet. My Opinion though

Well Silvagni is supposedly a very good communicator at other clubs. sydney used him last year because Lyon asked him to talk to their defence and the Western Bulldogs are using him this year.

He must be doing something right.

Being a board member is very different from being a coach.

But, maybe he is not ready to be at carlton.

Maybe a Voss would be better anyway.

I agree. It seems that most people think getting ex-Carlton players to fill all the positions in the club will be some sort of panacea. A good coach is a good coach, irrespective of who he played for.

The club does need to a blood transfusion.

I am definently of getting the best coach. Not just an ex blue.

I dont have a problem changing coaches mid season....Barry Mitchell seems to be a reasonable choice given we are going the youth route...
Voss would be nice to have onbaord but i feel it would be similar to Worsfold....a couple of seasons with us as an Assistant and then back to Brisbane for the main job...

I think a change now would give the new coach a chance to have a look at the list, evaluate players and maybe start correcting some fundemental skill problems that some of our players have...like being able to hit targets, and make plans for the draft period.......
