29 possessions 18 marks, all in the defensive 50 by himself.

what a joke of a football comp we have if he is the best full back in the league.

He was allowed to be by himself

Hutchy even hinted he was B.O.G  . I mean he was good but Hutchy surely has to look at more than those cheap stats he was collecting.

He was also by himself when he tried to take that mark over Fevola, in fact he was so far by himself the ball was nowhere to be seen. No Free Kick, play on said the umpire.

He and blondie kept kicking it backwrds and forward to each other. Close to 18 uncontested marks. Meaningless stats.

None were contested. Swans are great at accumulating uncontested stats. Funny how contested possessions were dominated by Carlton players.

One player, can't remember who, said a few weeks ago "the only possessions that count are contested possessions." Which is exactly correct in the modern game. Uncontested games are irrelevant.

I can't agree with that. Those uncontested possessions won them the game. They slowed the game down and squashed our run and momentum. Half way through the last quarter the coach, captain, vice, somebody had to say lets put the zone away, play man on man, take a risk to try and win the game.

Eddie Betts running back and forward between Barry and blondie is only making Eddie tired.

But the Game.. we did that to have a zillion players back to help Lance on Hall...

If we were playing man on man... Eddie wouldnt be running back n forth now would he????

Cos we had less players up front and more down back.
What they were trying to do is play with less forwards and more through the midfield.

So even though we held Hall it was because we flooded that CHF/FF area and they were moving the ball around the flanks to blokes like Davis and Oluaghlan.

So when were doing that..... (I mean flooding that defensive area .. of course its just Fev and Eddie chasing in the forward line.. and they have the numbers through the midfield to chip it around till they break us down.

You cant have your cake and eat it can you?

I have no problem with zoning and flooding but for the last 10 minutes when they were winding down the clock we needed to take a risk and play man on man.
I'm an Eddie Betts fan, he is the best chaser and harrasser in the AFL, when he gets stronger he will be the number 1 tackler in the comp.

By the way Lance beat Hall in plenty of one on ones. Of course he had help on occassions it's a team sport.

But the Game,.. when the game had to be won.. Hall nailed it!!!
No matter what we threw at him.

And sure its a team sport and we flooded and we zoned....

But when we got the ball we had to pull rabbits out of the hat to score... because Fev was up there on his own...
When their defenders had the ball....

... we had Eddie and Fev chasing them trying to cause turnovers.

All they had to do is play keepings off because if we just manned up....

... we then it wouldnt have been a 'team sport' and Hall would have been even more dangerous.

PS I reckon his last quarter made him the difference.
His tapwork and us being so paranoid of him we couldnt man up.

So it was a hard night for him to dominate against all those defenders.
Just as it was for Fev.

Fev is a GENUINE star by the way... he can win his position and he gets dbl and tripled team... which means he gives us some breathing space.
Breathing space as in because he takes 2 or 3 players.. we get some of the personel back that we lose by playing a zillion blokes to congest the backline.

Its abit like chess The Game.

Fev is a great asset.. he sucks players to him.... which means if we had more very good players tey could take advantage.

Ib a year or two we will take advantage.

At the other side of the park we dont have as many stars.... so what happens there is because we dont.. we throw alot of people back there to not be exposed...some players look good in this system.,

Now im not saying Lance played poorly... he didnt.. it was one of his better games.

But he can thank all those people who rushed in to give him a hand to blanket Hall... It wrecked Saddingtons first 1./4.... when we got drawn into the hot spot (Thats where Hall plays) and they had blokes killing us outside.

Honestly I think Hall got on top as Lance tired but at the end of the day our boy won the personal contest. We missed Fisher, Lappin and Waite badly tonight as they would have cleaned up as you already stated Fev was dragging defenders up the ground.

Yeah. Was an awesome game by Whitnall, and I'm surprised Lappin was played. Should never have stepped over the white line.

Fev is our most important player.

With French.

And in my opinion would be close to winning the BnF at this early stage.

Loved his vigour... put abit of doubt in their heads.

Wont get anything for that if the tribunal has any sense of credibility.

Keep it up Fev!!!... i think he is setting the tone.

Fev will get ZERO.

If that is suspension-worthy....I'll go she, or he, or whatever the ridiculous statement is.

Plus I'll eat my hat.

Was a different injury. He was fit to play.

For sure Fev is the superstar at Carlton. Put the ball in front of him and watch him go to work.
