Seeing as the other thread got hijacked....

I for one would like to thank Collo for his long service to the club, as player, administrator and president, over 40 odd years, and for standing up when we needed him. Like all of us, the club's current state must appall and dismay him, and he stepped up for all of us when we needed him to.

Our state was such that not even Collo could wave his magic wand and get us out of the shit.

But he has steadied and righted the ship, and we now have the chance to move on.

Thanks Collo, goodbye and good luck.

I agree.

Thanks, Collo, for the hard work, especially in the face of all the accusations around you, and for doing your damnedest to right our ship.

Not often I agree with these types of thread, but I wholeheartedly endorse this one.

Thanks Collo, you've done a great job under the circumstances.

If is wasnt for Collo we would have been stuffed.

We almost were stuffed as a matter of fact.

Different types of people are needed at different times to lead organisations.

Collo was right for our post 2002 train wreck period.

He stopped our free fall and limited the damage from our big accident.

While I am thankful for and very appreciative of his efforts what we need now is an more visionary and entrepeneural type of President to continue the rebuilding process and move forward.

Everyone wanted Jack out,but no one wanted to take the reigns.Step forward Collins.........fact is,things were so bad, they wanted to hand the keys to the AFL . Once again,it was Collins who said no.We would have just about folded if it wasnt for Collo. All true Carlton supporters owe this guy big time. You can accuse Collo of lots of things, but you cant accuse him of lacking ticker.Heart as big as a cabbage for mine.
Thanks heaps.Good luck.

Now theres a horrible thought. the AFL administrators called in to bail us out. a bit like calling in the receivers.

Collo sure had plenty of nerve to step in and get the job done.

Agree - his work will only be appreciated in the fullness of time, as will be his wise decision to hand over the reigns now.

Collo, you may not have achieved everything you wanted, but you sure achieved the main task of keeping Carlton afloat in very dire times.

Well done and thank you very much.

Sorry to hijack a 'nice' thread, but.....

I must have missed some news a few weeks back. Can someone please summarise for me:

1. What was the promotional deal Ian Collins agreed to with The Age?
2. Why was he forced to renege on it?

Author:  Synbad [ Tue Apr 18, 2006 9:49 am ]
Post subject:

Ok, most clubs have an agreement in place by one or another of the two newspapers.
We went with the Age as it was for more $$$.
The Age wrote a piece on us titled 'Bluebeggers' where Caro spoke about us going to the AFL for $.
It took us abit to respond to it.. but seeing we had not signed off on the deal some directors thought we should terminate the agreement.

Collins has done a very good job at stabilising the club over the last three years.

Well done Collo.
