so what would the ins and outs be (and will we find out tonight?)

Out: Fev, Chambers? Sporn? Lappo? (not conviced he will play)
IN: Kennedy?, O'Halpin?, Fisher?

that would be three talls for atleast one tall and probably two smals, unless archie gets dropped?

mmm maybe teague will get dumped. i guess livo would be hard pressed to get a game.

Im thinking Mclaren might come out, at training Deluca spent a fair bit of time working one on one with Gary Dempsey and no ime spent with Mclaren. Im thinking that Deluca will run with Spida and can play on him when Spida goes forward as Mclaren gives away some height

Interesting that the photo that goes with the article is of JK and not Santy despite the fact that Pagan spoke about them equally. There's no doubting that being a No. 4 pick brings with it incredible interest, even more than the second coming of the Irish sensation.

Could we really include Santy, JK and Fish? Would we take the risk of trying to stretch them down back (and risk being too topheavy)? McLaren is a must, and it would be a surprise to see Archie go after he showed some form.

The 3 of them are quite mobile, so perhaps that makes it a possibility. In particular, Fisher plays like an offensive midfielder in the mould of Embley.

If Spida is played forward, Deluca would not be the opponent I would choose. I'd prefer to play Teague on him. Deluca has never showed any particular aptitude as a defender, and doesn't hold his ground well enough in body duels. McLaren has played as a defender, and has good spring and reach.

I wouldn't like to see Archie ruck against Spida either. He may be forced to do so to allow Barney a breather, but Barney might find he has to go back out before he has much of a rest.

Deluca has played down back. Pretty sure early last year when Livo and T-bird were missing he lined up at CHB.

Yes, I remember him playing down back in his first season IIRC. But he was pushed out of marking contests.

Remember, I didn't say that Archie had never played down back - just that he'd never showed any aptitude in that role. Do you recall him showing anything as a defender?

I can't specifically recall the games that you refer to, but I think it is a fair bet that he didn't make his mark then either.

He's played on Ben Holland as well...but then again...any gump could play on Ben Holland as long as he was over 190cm...

How do you think McClaren went on Saturday night? Did Dempsey spend any time with French? If not, will he get dropped as well?

Spida was putting it straight down Mitchell and Crawfs throat last week. Especially after King got injured...one of the reasons they won.

I wouldn't understimate how good Spida is. DeLuca rucking with him around the ground is a worry (if its the case)...mind you, not sure what you can do, other than tight, tight marking at bounces (Kouta in the forward line?)

You have a point there, no Dempsey did not spend time with French nor Mclaren but Mclaren gives away a few inches on Spida and correct me if im wrong but Robert Cambell pretty much rucked most of the game last week and was tapping the ball down mitchels throat. Spida had a dirty game

Archie also played down back last year with Morell against the pies at the G.

We dominated the first half and they smashed us in the second half. Tough work for those two in defence.

He looked a bit lost. Don't know how he would read the play now.

McLaren gives away inches to everyone. I don't think he will get dropped.
If Spida goes forward we have Lance of Thornton to pick him up. Hawks don't have a very tall forward line.

I really can't see McLaren getting dropped, he played pretty well against the Swans.

I was at training today also. I think Deluca's work with Dempsey is more about helping him with the rucking he does in the forward line. Dempsey was giving him tips on body work and where to position himself.

surely the only way Carlos AND Kennedy would line up is if Waite can't make it.

Dropping McLaren would be the stupidest move we could make unless of course we played Deluca in defense which would take that cake.

Can't wait for JFK to debut. Now for JR and I'll be happier again :-D
