i attended training this afternoon and the club threw a BBQ for cureent sponsors of the club. There would have been about 100 people attending the free feed and drink, the champers was flowing along with the crown lagers and getting amongst it all was our new president who got on stage and thank the sponsors for there support and how important there realtionship is. Smorgo was getting amongst the crowd meeting and greeting along with Grant Lee and sticks, then after training had finished the players got in amongst it.

Jarusa and Phoenix were there (probably still are!) representing all the members of TC's sponsorship of Paul Bower.

No doubt we will get a fabbo report in due time. :)

they had removed part of the fence and allowed those who attended to stand on the ground and watch training. Has a function be thrown like this before or is it a new idea by the board?

Grant Lee....was that the famous Civil war general??

Here's hoping he doesn't bring any of those attributes to the footy club

Damn wish I knew it was on...may have found an excuse to sneak away

Had the pleasure of attending todays guernsey sponsorship function along with Jarusa who I had the pleasure of meeting for the first time.

We walked into the ground at 2pm and training was in full swing. Good news is that Fischer and Lappin participated in all the drills and both looked in good shape. Unfortunately Waite trained away from the main group and headed down into the change rooms about half way during the session. later when we visited the rooms he pedalling nowhere on the exercize bike.

Also had the pleasure of meeting Capt Carlton(not the mascot) and his family. You should've seen the look on his kids faces after Marc Murphy signed their Guernseys.

Later, Chris Baba took us on a tour of the changerooms and the new weights room. Lots of interesting slogans and quotes on the walls including on from the Bruce Lee  and various other bits of info on the walls, Jarusa took a few photos in the rooms but I'm not sure if he's able to post them all.

I did notice one white board which had various player stats on it and from what I can recall Bentick 145 kg bench press has been equalled by Wiggo.
Also our man Bower stands at 192.5 cm's and can bench press 100kgs. As a comparison Saddington was listed at 194cm.

Unfortunately, Bower didn't join in the sponsors function after training, instead he snuck down into the changerooms. I did manage to find out that he is fairly shy but is a bit of a character around at the club. About half the team joined the sponsors function and it was great to see that of all the players Murphy was last to leave.

Half way through the sponsors function our new President, Smorgon spoke. Key points were that there wont be any significant changes in the club strategy however there will be some slight changes in presentation, which I interpreted to mean the clubs communication style. Finally More importantly, he said that the club will continue with its youth policy so that was pleasing to hear.

Other notable attendees were Greg Lee, Sticks and Wayne Johnston who walked with a distinct limp.

Finally, thanks for the opportunity to attend and represent the web site sponsors.
Oh and Camel, a dark green Suzuki Baleno was parked in the coaches carpark, valued at about $6000 after taking $1000 off for the dark green colour.

If anyone has any question I'll do my best to answer them.

would you know if the sponsors bbq was a first or has the club done this before?

I think its a great initiative by the club and maybe thats an example of what Smorgo ment by "there will be some slight changes in presentation"

I was supposed to be there with HP for TBV's sponsorship of JFK, but I forgot about a prior engagement and had to miss.

Sounds like it would have been an alright arvo.

Hi

Do you remember what the Bruce Lee quote was ? I remember a few years back, I emailed the club this really excellent quote from Bruce Lee.

Had a great time at the sponsor BBQ this afternoon, an honour to represent TalkingCarlton and a pleasure to meet Phoenix.

Not much more to add to what Phoenix said.

Food was good and the beer was cold so that was a good start. Good crowd and even a TC gatecrasher or two.

Some pics of the setup:

We met up with Chris Baba and he took us for a tour of the player's gym and locker room. My first ever time into the inner sanctum so it was pretty exciting.

Great to see the player numbers up on one of the walls with names of every Carlton player to play in each guernsey.
Image

Some of the motivational slogans in the room were interesting.

The gym was better than I thought it would be, a few of the players were in there working pretty hard when we went through.

We got to see the sacred CFC lockers. :-D

Afterwards some of the players mingled with the sponsors.

Sorry to tell you this Phoenix, but about 15 minutes after you left TC's lad Paul Bower came up for a chat.

I passed on the best wishes of everyone from TC. Told him he was pretty lucky because instead of just one or two people following his career as sponsors he has hundreds of people who will be wishing him well. Told him the hair was looking good and hoped it would get to Cattogio proportions, he said it was getting a bit long and might get it chopped soon. Asked him what it was like living in Melbourne, he said it was good but a lot different to Mandurah where he is from. He said his aim is to keep playing well with the Bullants and hopefully get a charnce sometime this year in the seniors. He also confirmed that he is almost 193cm and hoping to grow to 194-195ish.

Here he is with some fat stats bloke standing next to him. (Thanks to Headplant for taking this pic)

Image

also, had a sneak peek in the rooms and can confirm that Josh Kennedy weighs in at 96.7Kg and Setanta is 98.7Kg. JK is a big boy already. :-D

That's about it. If you have any questions I'll try to arnswer them best I can.

Fevola, the Bruce Lee quote was something about the way an athlete should move their body I think, cannot remember specifically.
