Looked lost without him. Like it or not he is Carlton's barometer. We controlled the 2nd and most of the third quarters and we had no one to go to.

Spot on. How much we would have stretched them with Fev & Waite in is ridiculous. With Whitnall up forward it would have been Dawson on Lance or Waite.

we made old dole check dawson actually look ok, the guy is terrible and continually cleaned up out of defence.

horribly horribly missed. And Waite and then toss In Josh when fit and things will get interesting.

Even with the talls in and firing, we still need crumbers. As well as Eddie's doing in midfeild, we're missing him up forward. The ball continually gets swept out of our fwd line so easily.

Lance and Carrazzo were the only ones who knew when and how to lead. Problem being Lance was getting his kicks too far out and Carrazzo is 5 foot tall and doesn't kick like a forward.
We're at least a 5 goal better side with Fev and Waite.

Why not play in the forward line:

Waite Whitnall Kennedy

Fisher Fevola Betts

Play in defense:

Saddington Livingston Carrazzo

Walker Thornton Lappin

At least rotate Livo in and out as needed.

But the main emphasis is that we have a potent forward structure that when the ball is delivered will kick goals.

Shit - Lance killed them when he went forward.

I would rather lose a game 135 points - 120 points, than kicking 68 points in a game.

We are robbing Peter too pay Paul.

Simply if the forward structure is set as is, then we can work on the back six if needed. By while Lance is back and forth we have a false sence about our backline.

Fev's importance in terms of goal output is obvious but I don't think people realise just how important not only he but also Jarrad Waite are structurally.

What Fev does is straighten us up and give us an option long inside forward-50. What Jarrard does is give us an option from between say 30m-80m out from goal. It's been pretty clear the last two weeks, and also unsurprising, that without Fisher/Waite last week, and Fev/Waite this week, when we get the ball across half-back we haven't had a half-forward line nor a true forward line to kick to at the same time. This has caused us to chip wide and hold onto the ball because the structure down the ground just isn't there. I lost count of the number of times where we've won the ball across half-back but have looked up and there's been nothing to kick to. Yes, part of that is because of a defensive approach but they key personnel have not contemporaneously been allowed to operate forward of centre.

I am confident that this problem should be alleviated next week.

Fev and Whits may work better at oppositte ends of the ground

We'd have won tonight if Fev was playing.

Carazzo looked good as a leading forward. Kicking lets him down though.

Lance looked some guy who was All-Australian 6 years ago.

Carrazzo knows how to play the game. He might not be as good a kick as Simpson but overall he is streets ahead of him.

Agree with that. We had about the same number of scoring shots as them but were killed by poor conversion, especially in 3rd Q. Sure Fev would have converted better.

Tonight was a perfect opportunity to develop a plan B - ie someone to kick to when Fev is being double teamed.

Pity no-one stood up.

Fev is also a good kick for goal and even more importantly a good long kick. If we fart around to get it to him and he leads to 55, he's still a good bet for a goal.

That stretches the defence and creates opportunities for others closer to goal.

Heis very important to the structure intersting stats for the blues

when Fev is in the team 30 - 40% of the forward entries go to Fev .... Waite atracts another 20-30% and more if Fev is not playing

With both Fev and Waite out basically means that we are forced to go wide to try and get into or around the 50 meter arc..

Unfortunately at this stage we lack depth to cover when our key forward play makers in Fev and Waite are not in the Team...

IE throw Whits forward ... Deluca though getting more of the ball is getting it outside 50 and is to slow in his use of the ball ..

Carrots again gets the ball but really we need his drive and pressure off teh half back flank..

We will be a better team if next week both Fev and Waite play... and down the track hopefully Santanta will improve in the Bullants get some confidence up again .... Kennedy developes and gets a some games in teh seniors ... so in next 1-2 years that depth will be there to cover when a key forward is out ie Fev or Waite or both
