If we're no chance of making the finals at the mid year break (I reckon we're no chance now btw), who do you think should retire 'gracefully' to give one (or 2  ) of our rookies a chance at senior level?

Kouta.

Don't care what anyone says, he is a lost cause. He lacks urgency. He lacks intensity. He lacks the will to lead.

Wow, talk about a leading thread. There are only 3 options.

The bloke Denis told won't play senior footy this year.

We've only got one rookie getting close.
Let them develop in the VFL for the moment. No one is knocking the door down yet.

He said retire, not delist. You need to have had a career first to retire.

Question though. I'm not sure that the AFL would let you elevate a rookie in these circumstances. I thought there was a precedent for this?

If you retire mid season do you still get paid out your full contact entitlements?

Depends on what the player agrees with the club - I would have thought that if it's solely the player's decision, they wouldn't get paid out. If the club 'asked' them to retire they would have to pay them out. Either way, I think the full amount would fall under the salary cap whether it was paid or not.

the fact that we're considering this is a massive indictment on the MC for not actually having the rookies we want on the proper list. Its not as though there's any talent keeping them out.

Seriously, we could delist 12 players and not feel the impact in overall talent.. thats how shit our list it.

They would get paid out at the end of the year or at the end of their contract.

Case in point - Daniel Harford.

IIRC he reitred mid seaso, or there abouts, and still had a year and a bit to go on his contract. I'm guessing he got paid for the year he retired and then for the final year of his contract MCed Carlton social events.

You can't replace a retired player on the senior list with a rookie-listed player. You would need exceptional circumstances that the AFL would accept. The AFLPA will never accept a "was he pushed or did he jump" retirement as grounds for the promotion of a rookie.

If by rookie you mean a senior-listed 1st or 2nd year player, then we can play him in the seniors without needing to retire anyone.

The question should be who do we place on the LTI list mid-season to give our rookies a chance.

TBBrad, are you suggesting the Tonia Harding solution?

Harford played the last 4 games of 2004 and retired at the end of the season.
