Post subject:  Watching the game in Beijing?

Hello Everyone,

I've just finished a Trans-Mongolian train ride and have ended up in Beijing.

I'd love to watch the the game against Collingwood tomorrow and celebrate with a few Tsingtao beers.

Are there any expats around who could tell me where I might be able to watch the game in Beijing? Are there any sports bars or some such that televise the game?

It's a long shot but any suggestions as to how I can get to watch the game would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

KS

The embassy area in Beijing has quite a few pubs etc. that cater to western tastes.

No garauntee of the game being on though, they do not get every game there from memory.

Best bet would be to contact the australian embassy and ask them.

It's on Dongzhimen Waije I think. Just ask a cabby to take you to the Aust Embassy, you might be lucky and find one who knows where it is. :-D

Don't worry about the Tsingtao, you can buy Becks in Beijing for just $12 Australian a slab. Man I wish I lived there.

Mate you can buy Beir Hoi in Vietnam for 12c a glass. They serve it straight out of the keg on the street corner in Hanoi.

One night I found this one intersection that had a Beir Hoi stand on all four coners. I could walk a circuit of about 30m and drink four beers for 50c. If the kegs hadn't have run dry I'd probably still be there. *sigh*

Great to have another mad Carlton supporter in town.

Glad you survived the dust and train trip.

Unless you can access Telstra's Broadband relay, very tough IMO, your best bet is to find a bar that broadcasts ABC Asia Pacific.

The Carlton/Collingwood match is on a delayed broadcast at 11pm on Sunday night according to their website.

The best place to try is likely to be 'The Pavilion' inside the gates of The Workers Stadium, Phone 6507 2617, or or 'Joe's Bar and Grill '6508 6179, or 'John Bull Pub' 6532 5905. Try thesew first and if you don't meet with any success PM me and I will see what else I can find out for you. If you PM me let me know where you are staying as well and I will try to find something close to you.

Pity it seems so difficult to get the game on TV these days, I remember watching Carlton live on TV 4-5 years ago in my hotel in Beijing, Carlton won and it was my birthday! From memory it was an Australian Goverment TV satellite station...

ABC Asia show live games every Saturday and Sunday.

Just unfortunate for you this week the Sunday game is not ours. Or fortunate really, depends how you look at it.

Thanks everybody, especially China and Jarusa.

China, I'm staying at a place called "Red Lantern House" it's a Backpackers at No. 5 Zhengjue Huotong, Xinjiekou Dajie. It's North West of the forbidden city.

But after trawling through all the comments I think I'll pass on the opportunity to watch the game and go to the Kung Fu instead. I might be able to sign up a tall key defender or two.

Have no fear team, once I'm back in town the Blues will be as well.

P.S. Tommi, A man with your obvious sex appeal would be very popular with the laaaadies anywhere in the world.
