I wonder if Melbourne might be a potential suitor for Yarran? Roos might like the idea of him in a Jetta role like at the Swans? Reunite him with Jeffrey. It would be an easy sell to the Demons members.

Based on current ladder positions, I would jump at #4 in exchange for Yarran & our #21. That would give us picks #3 & #4 but put us out of the second round.

More likely however, Melbourne would push for #22 for Yarran. I would want a decent steak knife with that....

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/w ... h4a32.html

How about Watts & #22 for Yarran & #39? We'd be left with #3, #21 & #22 + Watts.

Meh, maybe. Would prefer to get another pick in the top 15 somehow.

But imagine how aroused Bruce would be with Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer & Watts in the same side....

steak knives don't work. there's a reason they're steak knives and that's because they're flawed.

no more steak knives. if the dees want yarran for 22, they have to tell their story walking.

Fair enough. As I said, ideally we get pick #4 for Yarran & #21.

I doubt that will happen though.

The baggage Watts brings with him isn't what we want (alleged underachieving #1 pick, said to lack urgency & toughness etc). But I'm throwing it out there for discussion. He is talented, can play midfield and KP. I would want at least an upgrade of picks if Yarran is part of the trade = ie. Yarran & #39 for Watts & #22.

We have to be realistic - Yaz is guilty of what Watts is accused of too. They are about the same age, same number of games....

If Yarran can somehow turn it around in the next couple of months, the deal is off the table. But Yarran's trade currency is dropping by the week, so we need to start thinking realistically about what we could get for him.

It may get to the stage where his trade currency is so low we're better off keeping him. But I get the impression both parties are ready to move on from each other. If that's the case, Carlton will have done well to emerge from any trade with an extra pick inside the top 15.

If we get an offer for a 1st round pick for Yarran we should snap it up.

Watts was ruined by Melbourne and the AFL community in general. He's got about 7 years of football left in him if he stays injury free, and you'd spend 18-24 months of that to get a real return.

I don't even want to imagine the sledging he gets on the footy field; would only compound his issues. Not worth trading for at that price because of it.

That said, if Watts was in the draft this year, he'd still be top 5, and that says more about his potential coming into the AFL than it does about the man himself. Should never have been number 1 though. Massive error by Melbourne.

Correct me if I'm wrong but won't Yarran be a restricted free agent at the end of 2016? If so, given Melbourne got a 1st round compensation pick for Frawley, we'd have to be a chance for the same for Yazz. That's a pretty good pick so I wouldn't be doing any deals for Yarran this year unless the offer is the first half of the first round.

I've always been intrigued by getting Watts, on the basis/theory that at his second club, he'd be under a lot less pressure than what he is now. Whatever potential he did have, I thought he would live up to at another club.

However he's so fundamentally unsound in his intent and decision making, I don't think there's any way back for him. To the point where I would be concerned about the impact on teammates having to play alongside a bloke who takes so many short cuts onfield. I happened to be next to an ex Melbourne player at a game last year, and he talked me through the whole game watching Watts. The lack of urgency is pretty frightening when you focus on him.

Big no for me.

I agree with the "Carlisle is overrated" arguments, but if they're found guilty of a doping violation but given minor bans (bit of a contradictory argument, I know), I'd say there is cause for them to be released from their contracts (basically they become unrestricted free agents).

Wouldn't waste the cap space on him though.
Unless there's a straight swap for Liam Jones; help the Bombers field a 22 next year, ya'know.

I don't agree with Carlisle being over rated. I think he is an AA key defender.

Henderson is in a similar position... but that's another story.

Just to clarify, Carlisle is not a free agent. He is only 22. Does anyone really believe Ess players will serve any bans? I highly doubt it.

Get him! Give away as many second round plus picks as you want in this weak draft and bring in quality young (23 or younger) talent.

Carlisle turns 24 on October 1st.

Dont we need our second rounder for the FS selections?

its hard to judge Essendon* players in that environment, they look tired and all need a fresh start carlisle included.

#4 for Yarran? Yes! But there is no way we are getting that unless the dees feel really guilty abt taking a first rounder for Brock. Watts has enormous talent and excellent disposal and has been crucified for being a # 1 pick, but we don't need players who lack intensity. All in all i would rather Yarran play to his talent. It is so frustrating watching a player with his skill look half hearted

Yarran's current state is probably going to save Lach.

The good thing with Yazz is that he's contracted so we have more control. I am told whilst Yarran doesn't want to leave, he wouldn't refuse a trade if we asked him to.

Also with Yarran being a restricted free agent next year - we should get good compo for him if we keep him this year. And always have the option to re-sign him if he gets his act together.

She might be the least accurate person on the Internet. At anything. An absolute disgrace and muckraker of the highest order. If that's what she is saying it's likely he's never made a bet in his life.

IMO Roos was the last chance for Watts. Definitely no.

As for Carlisle - it would be insane to recruit any Essendon* players prior to the CAS ruling.

Hooker and Heppel - only two I'd want. Oh, and maybe Zaharakis if going cheaply.

In reality, we'd be lucky to get a pick in the teens for Yarran. Wasted talent
