While we're discussing 4s: Bruce Doull (who played his first game in the late 60s) used to have no 4. He moved to no 11 when John Goold left. I'm not sure when this occurred, but it had to be after 1970 as Goold was part of the 1970 GF team.

I had heard that the reason why Doull requested a shift to Number 11 is that he felt too much in awe of Sergio Silvagni and John Nicholls down at Lockers 1 & 2 and felt he didnt deserve to be that close to them.

Great to bring up these guys:
Mark Buckley - a forward who lacked a little muscle, but who had a great leap. He took a couple of marks that, had the cameras been there for the 2nds, would be remembered for a long time. Kicking was a strength - he wasn't going to kick it 70m, but was reliable when close enough. He really lacked opportunity at a time when we were strong.
Steve Buckley - a good midfielder who never got the chances due to our midfield strength. He ran very smoothly and kicked it well. Probably didn't quite get enough of it, but was a great clubman in thar era.
Mark Kerr - I had quite a chat with Laurie Kerr one day at the No.1 oval when we were doing a little practice match and claimed Mark loved being around the place, but badly wanted aq senior game. He got to be emergency a number of times and played night footy, but never cracked it for a senior game. He was a solid forward who 2 grabbed too many marks. He could play defence, but also tended to 2 grab marks.

Stephen Buckley in fact played 6 Senior games and kicked 4 goals for us 1980-81.

DOB: 23-04-59....183cm and 84.5 kg.

First joined CFC in 1976.

His occupation in 1981 was a Layout Planner for a Tyre Company.

From St.Marks like his brother Mark....Stephen was single..(in 1981)

Following Carlton; Stephen went to North Melbourne and played 2 games and kicked 0 goals in 1983.

Also, didn't "Elephant Boots" Easton (Stephen Easton) who was brought over from North melbourne (possibly part of that deal to move Stephen buckley to North) wear number 1 in his one and only game for the Blues. A failed experiment to try and counter Essendon*'s dominance over us at the time by matching up with a new "big man".
Pity the "big man" we brought in to do the job was a total joke and Simon Madden murdered him.
In the Locker Room, it has him down as wearing 31 and this may be true but I have a recollection of him wearing number 1 - the first to do so after Greg Wells retired at the end of 81.

Wells retired during the 1982 season.

I've heard that he asked to move because Nicholls attracted a lot of attention (from the press & supporters) and there was always a lot of people hanging around the no 2 locker. Moving down the row got him away from the crowd.

That's exactly what happened.

Hey Jarusa, i've just updating the Squad Locker Room for change of numbers and things like this. Are you considering amendments inside the Locker Room itself to reflect other numbers? Should I stop in the SLR at the moment?

Feel free to keep going, it won't effect the stuff I'll be changing.

I noticed Mark Buckley's page is blank too. Anyone out there who can describe his career? Or has any pictures or scans of old scanlens cards of him?

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... rk+Buckley

Even information as simple as whether he was a left or right footer helps, it all counts.

Rambo(dogcat) putting a photo up just seeing if the scan is any good

Mark Buckley had an older brother called Stephen who played in the reserves for a long long time and wore no 39. He and Mark Kerr (no 38) were a regular fixture in the reserves during the late 70's and early 80's. Not sure if either played a senior game - I don't think so - but may have played a few Tuesday night specials in the Ansett/Escort/Panasonic Cup out at Waverley.

Mark was a left footer - remember him playing a fairly good game against Richmond just before the finals in 82 - a tough hard game between the top 2 sides with the old Southern stand rocking.

He kicked 5 or 6 goals in a half against Richmond at Princes Park R1 1983 - can't recall if it was 1st half or 2nd half.

Also remember being at a Commodore Cup game at the Lake Oval some time in the 80's and standing next to the coachs box hearing Parkin doing his nut at Mark Buckleys non leading.

I'm pretty sure he played at Brisbane at some stage and I think he may have coached one of the local sides up there

Mark Kerr had number 38 in 1977,1978,1979,1980,1981 and 1982

Greg Wells played in 1982,he is lisited in the side against Essendon* in 1982 on April 3 1982. Graeme Whitnall,Wayne Harmes and Mark Kerr were all Emergencies that day, while Stephen Easton is number 31 in the Statewide Cup Squad for Carlton.

Thanks mate, superb.

I've paraphrased some of the additional information from this thread into the Mark Buckly player profile. Probably phrased badly, if anyone thinks they can improve it feel free to edit the page.

Fanstastic that we have gone from nothing to this in just a couple of days though.
