:-D Andrew Demitriou praised the Blues Board tonight on chanel 7 saying that the current Board are doing a great job keeping the club up and running. He also stated that the AFL were looking at ways to assist with maintanence of the ground which is reportedly $1.8 million a year. At least this board are not always fighting against the AFL and we may end up with a state of the art training facility.

Hey Paully, The Spew must be on drugs, or the viewer maybe? :P

I wonder did anyone else see this or is this sugarcoating?

AD also said that the board probably couldn't be doing much more than what they already are doing, considering the debt they inherited.

Justin Madden also said that Ian Collins is the man for the job atm

Sounds like the board have done a terrific job .

But even if we save some money this board isnt capable of bringing in fresh money is it???Were on 19 million turnover and Collinwood are double.

Go out and bring some money in Italian Blues .. and stop wasting your time talking to us in here....

Now were getting encouragement statements from the AFL.... and the board are using that as a reference.

Look they wouldnt need references from the AFL if they went out and found us sponsors.

Not sugarcoating at all. It was on Melbourne's 10 news (5pm edition). AD was very complimentary to the current board, and said that the AFL will help as much as possible to keep the club afloart. Very encouraging to hear, considering some of the negative stuff that has been written on TC.

 Hey Synbad, maybe you should look at supporting another club as it appears that you never have anything positive to say about the club.
All you appear to do is trash the club and its players, maybe you should join Caroline Wilson and Michael Sheehan as all they ever want to do is bag the club....

Sorry mate .. so maybe you should have gone to support another club when 'you' fought Elliot??

comes with the territory doesnt it???

You dont like something.. you speak out!!!

go get sponsors and youll find everyone will be happy...!!!

By the way can you explain to me how the maintenance of the ground is 2 million ???
Can you itemise it for me???

Id love to know....

You see... our club is [REDACTED] if all were doing is saving money... !!!... because were miles behind where the good clubs are in revenue sourcing...

So the current board is not capable of bringing in.. tappiung into.. attracting .. call it what you will.. sponsors and corportaes.
The Carlton coterie groups have dwindled away.. sponsorships are year to year propositions and there is no REAL PLAN on where were heading coming out of the club.

You need to sell to your supporters where were heading.!!!

at the moment all we get are bad stories and financial woes!!!

I put in my little friend!!!... maybe not as much as you or your dad.. but i do...

Most Carlton people do.. in fact i bet youll find that the average Carlton supporter has been giving more to this club percentage wise compared to corporate than any other club.

So the board has used us as its backbone for three years.. so i guess what i want to know is when will it be capable of going out there and attracting sponsors and not using Elliot as an excuse???

:-D What do you mean by "fought" Elliott? Didn't all the members desert Elliott?

What has my dad got to do with this? You should channell your energies to back the club instead of always bagging it, anyhow you are not the only one who has an opinion and just because not everyone agrees with you, that doesn't give you the right to get personal.

Don't forget that AD and Collo are mates and go back a bit. Don't be fooled by Black Friday.

I don't get this arguement, why is it always the Board of the football club's fault? Yes I know that they are ultimately responsible for the club but the day to day operations has to be handled by the CEO surely.

It also seems to me that Synbad has a point. There are two aspects to business one is the bottom line the other is the top line. The bottom line is all about cost cutting and being revenue conscious and the top line is about revenue growth. Seems that Collins is very good at the former and Elliot was very good at the latter. And they employed CEO's to carry out their directives. Of course they are good to the extremes. Unfortunately business moves like a pendulum and over time there will be swings from one end to the other but in the end a middle ground must be met or else the business will fail.

I only have the opportunity to watch this club from a distance, but it does not really seem like we are very good at growing our top line at all and the bottom line is not likely to get much smaller.

I think that the club hopes that when we have some success that on the field that things will turn around again. And maybe that might be the case, but I don't think that strategy is sustainable. We should be profitable regardless of our onfield position. We are making ourselves dependent upon something we have no control over and that is totally wrong.

It seems that Collins has given the directive to rip the club apart (from a business perspective), turn over every stone and look at each position and every item on the books. The club is moving baby-step, by baby-step into the future and I think that is too slow.

We need some movement of the pendulum back the other way. There are a million marketing ideas to grow your business that do not cost a lot to implement. It is not rocket science.

I think he is on the right track, but I think he is going to slowly

I do support the club i have no particular allegiance to any single personality... so that bit of me looks for options that i believe will help grow this footy club.
I have no allegiance to the board or the individuals on it.. only to my club.

It feels queasy reading that about what Demetriou has said, sounds like he knows he's got us over a barrel.

Or I could just be queasy watcing Simone Warne on Dancing with the Stars
