I think the core of the issue with us starts from within the club - the culture. This needs to be aligned to the strategy of the club. Do we have a strategy? A vision? Organisational Values?

I'm happy to assist the club in this respect as a volunteer to build the culture around what our strategy, vision, and organisational values encompass. Once these fundamentals are articulated and agreed to, only then can we go to work on potential business partners (sponsors, etc) by selling what we are about as an organisation and football club. This is where our marketing guru's take the baton.

Maybe a possible temporary measure could be to apply a brand-aid?

I get the feeling the plan is - sack everything ('cept the kids) then those that replace them stroll in, swagger and take all the credit. Grant Thomas anyone?

Your avatar got me thinking camel.

Doesn't the scum have some kind of link with ManU?

What about us forming some kind of a link with Chelsea?

The publicity of a deal like this would be fantastic for the club.

And if Roman can give us any spare change he's got in his pocket, we'd be out of debt.

Hmmm yes, all we need to do now is try to convince Roman to, oh I don't know how to say it, um, give a f@ck

If this went through I'd be gutted. Although it could be worse - Milwall wear blue as well...

Hey I'm a Gunners supporter, so I hate Cheatski too. But I'll put the good of Carlton before any other allegiances I have.

There's some great stuff here guys... obviously improving ourselves on the field will help, but I love the emphasis that we've put on improving ourselves off the field, and making us an attractive package to potential sponsors, and improving the common public perception that we are cheats that deserve to be down and out (as we're perceived to be now).

We should try to get this stuff through to the club ASAP... in fact, I'm putting something together for them based on this right now!

I like the Proud to be Navy Blue idea - I pitched this to them last year but under the guise of website interviews for people to read.

I also threw at them an idea of 'Pagan's phrase book' as a Christmas present type gag which actually gives real meaning to what he is saying. It could be hilarious, throw in some of his odd quotes, but if the Club owned the rights it could be a good money spinner for a year or so.

What pisses me off is that the Club does not seem interested in people offering ideas and expertise. I have e-mailed the club a couple of times with ideas but they did not even bother to reply.
I am sure there are lots of professionals out there happy to help the club – but they seem not interested.

Successful branding of a sporting club strikes a nerve with the character of their supporter base.

I really like your celeb idea mikkey...I mentioned similar stuff in the Something Blue thread. North have used Ponting in their ads & to me it works really well. Far better to go with this sort of thing than our own current abysmal excuse for a membership ad (OK, my opinion only)

I also think it's a disgrace that they didn't reply to your Princess Mary suggestion!

As a followup to my last post. With a possible $10 million reconstruction program at PP, maybe a large construction firm might be interested in sponsoring Carlton under a "Rebuilding Carlton" marketing program.

It might be possible to send out a Request for Tender (RFT) that asks for responses to cover sponsorship opportunitues?

Thoughts?

Agree with CB..Collingwood have great TV exposure thanks to Eddie and prime time at that...hard to compete with that...

Like Mikkey's idea..more celebs selling the club...also more players at schools...some of the other clubs really kick our butt in that area....rang the club a couple of times when my son was at primary school and they were not interested...Essendon* didnt have a problem ..sent Dean Rioli, and Marc Bullen and we wonder why Essendon* have great support especially amongst the youth...and Auskick is the same ...all the kids have Pies/Bomber jumpers on ..in fact where I took my son there were more West Coast supporting kids....the brand name is buggered at the grass roots level and when I asked my little bloke why none of the other kids are Carlton supporters he said we suck and its embarrassing when we lose every week....we need to tap into the young market better than we do....charging for family day isnt the way to go about it for example...

I also approached them a year or two ago regarding making the Kernahan room at TD somewhat more "attractive" and avoid pissing SC members off even more.
But they are not interested listening to people who are not "insiders" even if you have a strong track record / expertise in the area in question.

There are a lot of untapped and "free" resources out there the club could use - but seems that "volunteering" in their books only includes manual work.

Typical. Really an issue (lack of listening to good ideas from members) that should be brought up at the AGM. I might actually do just this as I plan to attend.

Look after drafting Setanta two years ago i spoke with board members about a commercial featuring members of U2 and Setanta on a small commercial .. where they show some highlights of our young kids to the music of 'The Real thing' and then finish off with a couple of lines of 'Lily of Laguna'... they looked at me like i was crazy...

Last year i said.. we have Aisake and Setanta and all you need to do is make contact the worst thing that can happen is they say "No!!!"/// they said to me "Why the hell would they want to do that??"..

I said "Who knows have you asked???"

Of course they havent...

This year theyre playing on the Telstra Dome and we have a direct line to them... "I said at least a picture of them with our jumpers on... do you think you can organise that???"

No answer...

I bet the Swans will have them in Swans jumpers doing a Riverdance with Kennelly...

If that happens heads are really going to roll with these fatalists.. we have running our club.!!!!

We should have Bono as our number one member .... !!!!

That would cause a splash wouldnt it???

But then it gets back to ""Why would Bono wanna do that??"

"Have you asked????"

"He wont do it ... they would want too much!!""
"Will you flower ask them?"

"Wasting our time....."

"So you wont ask ??"

"we will see but we dont think they would"

"So you might ask them??"

"Why would Bono and U2 do that ?"

"Just ask .. make contact!!!"

It goes back to the old saying If your not in you can't win. Very intersting idea Synbad. Heres one i've been playing around with - i'm sure its been discussed before but can't remember if it was on here or TBV. Okay despite me being a fairly optimistic person I don't think that ye will make finals footy this year (I would love to be wrong though). That means that ye should have a few months of before pre-season starts again. The two Corkonians will presumably retrurn home to Cork when they're done for the year. By this stage hopefully Setanta will have made several AFL appearances. No doubt this would be reported in the echo and should make a good portion of cork people aware of Carlton/Setanta. When ye're knocked out why not send over some of the big guns like Kouta, Lance, Fev,Murphy (anymore suggestions) with the boys. You could then get pictures of the lads at Na Piarsaigh training with hurleys, playing Gaelic Football, getting shown the sites of Cork, at cork tarining with Sean Óg etc and have them keep diaries like Murphy is doing already. Ye could also have a launch of carlton gear in sports shops around cork city. I don't think this would be that hard to do if the club would set its mind on the task

Probably too much money for the club as well

How about this article for a perfect example of a Club President who knows how to package their club to its supporters.

Now Kevin, you didn't like Hurling being called Gaelic Football and the AFL isn't the NFL.

Though Ben Graham has been playing like an NFL player for ten years! :P
