Is it a concern that recent club sponsorship seems to be predominated by companies with 'italian' links? - the 3 most recent signings (clothes, shoes and ball sponsors) are all such companies.

Are we purposely limiting club sponsorship to a certain market 'sector'? or does it speak of a more underlying problem with the clubs image (italian heritage) or ability to attract real sponsors?

In addition given the difficulties with attracting sponsorship why dont the above 3 sponsors have any readily accessible contact info or even a logo link through the clubs webpage? I can only see the major sponsors as listed on the bottom of the main page.

Apparently Mick Gatto's going to sponsor our corporate lunches. They were going to use La Porchella but as it's now closed down they've decided to do them at Mick's place. 8)

I have absolutely no italian heritage or connections but I still wear suits to work and wash my clothes in a washing machine. The stuff being sold by the sponsors appeals to the whole community, not just to the Italian Community. If we were only sponsored by Italian community specialty suppliers I would be more worried.

If we were still sponsored by Saab and Nokia came on board would we be worried about Scandanavian connections??? Maybe we are the beneficiaries of some business connections within a particular ethnic or religious Community, but we wouldnt be the only club to benefit from that would we?? Melbourne didnt knock back Gutnick's $$$

The italians are pretty good at getting hefty donations

Just ask the Vatican :)

Did he make us an offer we couldn't refuse?

You seem to be telling the story chicken.

"Is it a concern"? Would the Club be better off without them just incase you are right?

Are we? Does it?

Our current image is based on the past 5 years and the demise of the once strong club led by Elliot, not the past 95 years.

Aren't these REAL sponsors? Or are they just figments of the clubs imagination. Perhaps they are paying the club with Monopoly money.

You really are a 'glass half empty' kind of poster

Good point

It's obviously a neo-fascist conspiracy to bring back Mussolini to lead the Club after removing Collins as a start to pure socialism in Australia. About time too I say.

Give us a break!

4th Chicken, I really enjoy reading your posts, and purposely look for them. You seem to be well researched, logical and provide facts to support your opinions. Very strong arguments supported really well....in fact quite convincing.

I understand that you are asking questions related to the recent sponsors, but IMO they are more than questions they are cheap insinuations. There seems to be underlying suspicions, inuendo, satire attached to your line of questioning, something far removed from your usual logical position.

What do you mean by:

purposely limiting sponsorships?

underlying problem with the clubs image (italian heritage)?

real sponsors?

What are you expecting to achieve? What's wrong with their support? What do you mean? Where are you coming from? What do you want?

I hope you are trying to prompt Corporate sponsors to sponsoring Carlton as making a point of their appreciation of Italian heritage. If so, a piss weak effort and not very smart.

I'm sorry to say this, but my immediate thought to your post was "What am I doing associating myself with rednecks?" and I'm just a surfer from Bondi with no Italian heritage. In saying that, I hope you're not one, and I look forward to more of your more meaningful posts in future.

At this point I will refrain from forwarding a slap on behalf of our Carlton family, regardless of their background, as you have a lot to answer for.

We are not the MCC and I welcome everybody to the Carlton FC. As a matter of fact, I'm going out to buy some of our new sponsors' quality products this week; hmmm, a new suit and new white goods sounds good to me! Pity I'm vegetarian.

Carlton's ethnic links go a long way back.

Brunswick (the suburb closest to Carlton) was where a lot of Post World War 2 Greek and Italian migrants settled before scattering around Melbourne.

Of course these new Australians gravitated to the curious sport that was played by the locals where they picked up the ball with their hands and thank God all these people wandered down Sydney Road to Princes Park to have a look at then fall in love with Carlton - The OLD DARK NAVY BLUES.

We have a huge supporter base of Italian & Greek descent it makes sense therefore to court sponsors who can leverage this support and then make a full scale assault on the Australian Market.

So I dont have a problem with it.

I'm a second generation Carlton Supporter of Greek descent and I am glad my dad moved into Brunswick and then followed Carlton. 8)

I have other cousins whose parents settled in Richmond "insert shudder emoticon here".
