When the midfield relief options are players of the ilk of Wiggins, Sporn, Chambers et al he simply doesn't have the luxury of rotation.

Our chronic lack of developing talls (up until this year) means we haven't been able to rectify the midfield deficiency yet ... and makes the drafting of the mid-sized Russell with pick 9 difficult to work out. It was also why I was so keen to take Tenace with pick 2 a few years ago although if Walker cements a place in the backline I'll be happy with the outcome.

I'd expect us to go hard at midfielders in this draft but it means we're still a couple of years away from seeing it develop into a competitive unit.

midfield options?

Simpson, Carrazzo, Walker, Scotland. They all played negating roles on Sunday.
They should be a constant component of the midfield rotation.
Jordan Russell could have played on Thomas.
Bannister could have played on Johnson.
You dont put your creative players in negating roles and begrudge your lack of midfield options.

Simpson, Carrazzo, Walker, Scotland have all had ample opportunity to cement a spot int he midfield and haven't. These four were the biggest offenders in regards to turnovers on sunday as well.

I disagree with you Dukes.
Scotland has been played wing and off half back since he came to Carlton with short stints in the midfield.

Simpson is young and has had very little opportunity in the middle.

Carrazzo has played mainly back pocket or negating roles and Walker has hardly been near the centre.

I cant agree they have all had ample opportunities.
Walker is 19 years old. How has a 19 year old had ample opportunity to establish himself as a midfielder? :?

NEED to give walker a turn in the middle - first time this year he was in the centre bounce at 27 minute of last quarter against Mcchins team -
Carrazzo played most of junior footy around the middle - prefer him in the centre
Simpson hasnt been in middle much this year and would have played in middle more last year than this year
Scotland was very good at Collingwood on the ball but seems preferred at Carlton as hbf

Simpson & Scotland had 2 clangers each. Wiggins spent a fair bit of time in the midfield for 3. Stevens had 4.

A fatigued Stevens had 4 clangers, or 15% of his disposals were inneffective.
