You really hate Pagan man.

I think that there is probably a better coach out there for Carlton, but you cant say that 6000 people didnt get their memberships because they solely dont like Pagan.

Maybe your right, I dont know.
He does symbolise the status quo.

No I dont hate Pagan - he was a great coach, he is a self made man who had to work his way into the AFL system the hardway, did nearly 10 years coaching the VFL Under 19s before even getting a Reserve Job.

But the game has moved on and passed him by - we dont need a "footballers are sausages" or a "you've got to inspire me" approach.

The athletes/footballers of today just dont respond to this approach.

We need new fresh, scientific, innovative ideas, we need to see our young players developed (even the class of 2000 :P ) given encouragement to grow.

Pagan just isn't the man, go and look at the Essendon* Supporters Forum, plenty over their saying Sheedy is past the use by.

Unfortunately sentiment just isn't or shouldnt be a factor anymore - Pagan great man and all isn't THE man.

Time to move on Pagan - I dont hate you, I respect you, but time to move on.

My little campaign of 1000 heroes in for $1000 - PAGAN out!!! is more a wake up call to our supporters to show them that our current parlous financial state means we are probably retaining a coach not for on-field considerations but for off-field financial considerations - we are travelling that badly.

You cant blame the loss of the 6000 all on Pagan. Money's tight these days for a lot of people and you cant just expect their $$$ as some kind of 'birth right'. If you dont give people 'value' for their membership then they will keep it in their pockets. People may have jumped on board as part of fight back and that is great. Where the club has failed is in convincing folks that membership was worthwhile, useful and worth renewing.

There will be a wide range of reasons why most didnt renew. Many of the reasons are probably listed on the pages here on TC, amongst them would definately be the poor results and dislike of Pagan, move away from OO and the new seating arrangements at TD and the MCG. But equally there would be loads that spent the $$$ and just didnt derive any benefit other than a short lived 'warm fuzzy feeling' inside that they had helped out.

For what it's worth, loads of members, me included dont get to every game. You could drop the 11 game silver down to a 5 game silver for the same money and I'd get the same benefit. Loads of people buy up out of loyalty. When push comes to shove and the new school shoes are in competition with that membership that you dont really use because you cant get to the games, guess what wins out. I reckon the feverish chest beating of the last 2 years has died down as the hard reality of 'value for money' for a lot of folks hits home.

If you want to improve memberships you have to 'add value' to peoples lives. If the value people derive from a membership is greater than the value they derive from new school shoes for the kids then they will buy up in droves. It is called 'value adding'. I'm not sure what they can do to achieve this but if you want to move beyond the tragics (who'll pay anyway regardless) and the bandwagoneers (who are only there in the good times) then you have to find more innovative ways to add value to peoples lives. 5% off at Dan Murphys would be a great start.

Who would be an appropriate leader of the post modern blues?
Criteria: anyone in AFL circles either already attached to a club or not.

Good post AGRO.
2 year maximum coaching contracts from know on. The game styles change so quickly with each year that we need the freedom to be able to change coaching direction/philosophy WHEN REQUIRED.

Members want excitement, fresh ideas and innovation to keep their attention & interest keen for the club because there's so many other distractions in life now that can drag people away from footy.

Also the CFC board need to provide VALUE FOR MONEY with their membership packages. I've read of too many complaints from members that don't think they're getting value for their money. Add some goodies to the membership packages to make them more attractive & value for money & try to improve on the current facilities that are provided.

Although we need it now we can't keep relying on the Pratts & co. to keep bailing us out. We need a board that's "up with the program".

Its harder for some people to tip in $100 than for Pratt to tip in 7 mill...

Should people who earn $80k a year pay double for their membership than people who earn $40k? I'd love for Pratt to come to the recue but it will only put a bandaid on our problems, it won't heal them. The club has a huge image and marketing problem and this must be addressed ASAP.

Do you think its feasible that the spew has said to smorgon - you drum up the 6000 members you're down and then we will consider your princes park proposal - no members , no money !

This could be the reason for his pathetic display on the footy show and all the subsequent talk trying to drum up the 6000 members .

Perhaps Pratt could donate his couch to the club instead.

We could give it away to the Salvos and keep the change.... that should pay for a stand or 2

Give it to the Salvos, sure, but not before we check under the cushions for serious coin

When the side is winning or just playing exciting football people dont care about "free caps & scarves" - you would just buy them yourselves to be part of the bandwagon.

Dont tell me that Collingwood would suffer a drop in membership if they stopped giving away a free cap - and in anycase its not free the sponsors pay for it.

When the side is winning and playing exciting football people will want to be part of it.

Build it and they will come.

Good point about the $100 - I know about Jesus' parable about the old lady giving a penny and the rich man giving a couple of hundred denari.

The old lady gave all she had whilst the rich man gave away the change in his fob pocket.

C'mon Pratty have a look in that fob pocket will you. :P

The cardboard would have cost us less, and after the first bit of rain, we could have claimed it all back on insurance!
