Geelong haven't had a lot of high draft picks. Just smart selections and some good father sons.

As Synbad said we can draft the best young talent at that point in time, buts its up to our coaches to guide and develop them into a great player.

These u/18 players are not model professionals when they are drafted. They still have a lot to learn and assuming murphy and JK will automatically be superstars is untrue, because we need to groom them into the best they can play. Its up to Carlton to develop our drafted players not the underage clubs eg Calder.

I think either Essendon* or Port Adelaide will get the wooden spoon this year.
Even with the players that Essendon* had out, I still think we would've beaten them. But maybe it would've been a bit closer.

Hansen is a KPP that can play both ends, however fwd is him main possie.
Gibbs is a midfielder.

The Cazzes will fill you in on the rest.

As for this year finishing on the bottom, I see it getting half the value for finishing there again in our case, as there is no PP in Rd 1.

Hence why finishing 13, 14 or 15 will net you a very good player given the depth by all reports - there's no spoon for us and other teams supporters cannot bag us and we get a gun player.

It could only have been bettered by another analysing the list thread.

Does finishing bottom have the same stigma as it used to in the VFL? Im not so sure. You get rewarded now for last place in the old system you didnt. To stay ahead of the game and build on a nucleus of talent is the challenge. A big investment in recruiting and scouting is needed for continued success.

What you mean is its not just a wooden spoon these days, you also get a free set of steak knives with it.

Carlton may end up on the bottom. However it we do or not that doesnt mean a thing if we dont start playing like a team that wants to win.

It starts with this negative game style we start with each and every week with numbers behind the ball. They are teaching the kids no positives by doing this.

my suggestion - For a start, play one on one all over the ground. Keep the kids in and give them all a go...we know murph, symo look like they will stay but you need to keep the blackwell, kennedy, russle in the team. Even bring in a jesse smith. The sooner there in the better, and if you play positive footy we may get pumped still but thats whats happening anyway.

Deluca should not be getting a game, French back in for a big body, even prenda back in his playing well. Maybe its time a Stevens, or Kouta get dropped to give the team a clear message that we are willing to give the kids ago if they are performing and your not.

That response is a bit silly really. People are moaning about the wooen spoon and finiashing bottom. does it really matter that much anymore?

Thats the point really. There's an upside to finishing last these days.

Our stat of not winning a wooden spoon in 105 years or so was nice while it lasted (especially when at times there were only 4-5 teams in the comp) but now we have won our first (and second) wooden spoon, seeing the cream of last years draft run around in a blues gurnesey more than makes up for it.

IMHO 2nd is as good as last. The only real stat that matters is flags. In fact I would take 3-4 wooden spoons every 10 years if it could guarantee us 2-3 flags every 10 years.
