 that's just your mind GW.

SB that's up to the club. They ask, I obey. (ie Too slack to think of anything, unlike Molsey, too dispirited to write anything.)

i too submitted response but it was too big so i had to cut it in half.

heres the 2nd half i didn't submit.

so i say play the kids, and lets be attacking, minimise the flodding tripe. back ourselves in. i'd rather lose trying to create and score goals like in the 2nd term against the crows, rather than conceed defeat and flood all game like we did in the saints game. it's rubbish to watch and does nothing for the belief of the players and fans.

Well I tried to respond DB, but 400 characters or less...well, when have I ever been able to restrict myself to that? I tried to chop it down about 4 times and ended up canning out, so here it is in full here:

I believe it is all about balance. The future is the kids no doubt and haven't we got some good ones? Kids need game time to acquire confidence, whether that is in the VFL or in the AFL. How to choose which is the best for their development? Simple really: Pull all these fringe youngsters aside: Betts, Davies, Russell, Hartlett, Blackwell, Kennedy, Bower, Edwards, Raso, 2x O'hAilpins, Smith, Batson, Jackson & Flint (some injured and some rookies, so subject to restrictions) and tell them this:

"OK, guys we are embarking on a new and exciting phase of the club. We are going to treat the rest of this season as a transition period. We really want to know who is going to make it. Only you can tell us that. This is what we are going to do. When you are in the top 3-4 of possession winners at VFL level for 3 consecutive matches, we will reward you with elevation to the AFL for a minimum of 3 matches where you will get a minimum of 40 minutes total of ground time each match. If you are in the top 15 of possession winners over this period, you will be retained in the 22 for the balance of the season". 8)

This way the kids are incentivised to bust their gut to stand out in the VFL and if they get elevated they know they will get ground time to stake their claim. Only a handful will make the step up and only a few will stay there, but at least we will know who amongst them is prepared to work to succeed. I’m betting at seasons end there will be at least 6 new permanent fixtures to add to the likes of Simpson, Bentick, Carrazzo, Walker & Murphy. That gives us half a team of kids and half a team of experienced but generally young players. The rest subject to retirements, trades and drafting might be made up of this solid core: Stevens, Fevola, Waite, Whitnall, Fisher, Thornton, Lappin, French, McLaren, Houlihan, McGrath, Scotland, Saddington, Livingston, Bryan, Wiggins & Prendergast. Now add a couple of ready to play lads in the upcoming draft and we are starting to get some real balance.

That's a tricky one Brizzy, but it does at the very least incent and gives them something to play for. If atm they have lost confidence, a simple goal like that could give them a burst of desire, and with that comes some small steps of achievement in their development and may even result in newfound confidence (for some).

At the very worst Bullants end on top of the ladder and may win a Grand Final.

Oh I get plenty of that

as for the idea I think its more to encourage hits on the webite that a direct link to denis :garthp: When they want that they call me direct and denis and I chat - but only for 19 minutes - apparently if you talk to Denis for 20 minutes you lose all respect for him 8)

Understood.... how about finding a parallel between Luke B and his Dad? How about trying to compare Kennedy to someone from yesteryear? How about finding a game in 1976 or 1986 or 1996 that we can draw inspiration from? How about asking a past player a few questions?

Lets cut the bullshit and state the flower obvious.these players should not play another senior game for the club because
a there not good enough
b they have been given enough chances
1 Chambers
2 Longmuir
3Deluca(dont care his contract expires in 2007 and ruckman take longer to develop)
4Sporn
There are for definites. Now for the maybes
1 Davies
2 Saddington
3Teague
4McGrath
5Prendergast
6 Bannister
7 Wiggins
And Kouta should retire at the end of the year.
Dont ever play the definites and only give the maybes a small window of opportunity. I dont give a flying fart about who we play so long as these guys dont get a game or get minimal time.

And give guys game time and a few weeks to see how they go.Russell's form for the ants deserves a promotion.Heres a tip DP, play him for at least 70 minutes and dont hang him by the interchange bench if he flowers up. I cant see Sporn and Saddington playing pulsating footy over the next 5 years. Lets see if Russell can learn from his mistakes.

Address the recruiting issues.Personally I would be looking to bring potentially a ruckman and some inside on ballers. Our biggest weakness is not our defence but our midfield which is with the exception of Bentick is as soft as marshmellow.

Play the kids if they are good enough. Play the older guys if they are good enough.Flood against the wind. One on one with the wind. None of these things will solve the problems alone. The problems are mostly between the ears. Not just individual ears but the club as a whole also.They/We have spent far too long feeling sorry for them/ourselves. Perhaps it's time to get angry instead of apologetic.
