i tuned into SEN and caught the end of KB interviewing Tony Debolfo, i heard something about the redevelopment of Princes Park and that Jezza's Mark will be recognised with a bronze statue out side PP.

Did anyone hear the whole interview and is what i heard right?

my mistake......

Tony was talking about his idea for a statue for Jezza to be erected at a redeveloped PP, OO or MCLP. At the end he mentioned that he thinks that there will be some big news soon coming out about the redevelopment. That was it. During the interview he was talking about when the redevelopment happens not if it happens.

And so it should be developed. It has, and will always have a huge population of young healthy people on its doorstep. The park running track is always chockers with joggers and its just a great parkland atmosphere.

So much more deserving than Vic Park (good one bracksy, you arsehole) .

Well Graham Smorgan said Phase one or part of the redevelopment of PP would begin soon. I would tear down everything and if the AFL see PP as a key venuw for preseason and TAC games then they can fork in the $$$ to build some seats around the ground, like leaving the first 10 rows around the ground and using the seats from the legends stand to replace the wooden ones

Perhaps they could keep the name "Princess" (after our famous supporter in Denmark?)

There's definitely some big, good, news afoot at the Club, to be announced some time in the next month. Whether it's related to PP...who can tell? Who cares, as long as it is good!

With names like CUB and Holden be thrown around it could have something to do with those.

Maybe PP could become Holden park. Think about it Holden fits into the Carlton demographics (ethnic supporters) with a car dealership like the Lexus centre......

CUB sponsorship with the AFL ends this year maybe they wana scale down there involement in footy and jump onboard the blues

would this be the kind of thing that we could have an on-line whip around for? kind of like the player sponsor stuff. I know it's not a bona-fide fund yet, but I for one would happily chuck in what little I can afford if this gets off the ground.

Does Tony De Bolfo have any clue as to where out club's finances are currently at?

$150,000?

We spend that on a @#$%&! statue and we deserve to die.

If anyone has a spare 150K on them I'd far prefer they give it to the club outright than tie it to a statue.

Raising cash via supporters will just reduce potential club revenues also.

Great idea - shocking timing.

KB was also talking about them putting a speaker inside the statue and every 30 seconds it would say "Jesaulenko, you beauty"

I think its a bit better than that GWS. I think Tony knows something is going on with PP and that we'll be OK. I think the $150k will be sourced directly from losers like me who love the idea, who perhaps arent willing to give any more to teh Club directly until they lift their public persona / image. I think Carlton fans have been wonderful throughout our dark days and will support this. I think hope has been missing and something like this is a nice little catalyst.

We are a club with a tremendous past and a tremendous future, just stuck in the quagmire of today. The past needs to be celebrated much, muchmore, and Tony's idea is just one way to start this.

Then of course, there's that little online Museum going on?

I reckon nothing can symbolise what were trying to get to again than the most famous mark in that most famous of all comebacks ...

Money worth spending...

I'll get the ball rolling....

I pledge $$ for the memorial "McKay to the wing" foundation stone

Look this idea isn't as dumb as it sounds...actually not dumb at all!

It's a great idea and can be used as a true link for may aspects...home ground, grandfinal glory, skills, mecca for supporters, the Blueseum....donatioins etc etc...

The Beast is a great passionate supportyer and is also like a dog with a bone with some projects. His historical stuff has been brilliant!

This is quite a rallying cry .....and I see that there can be a lot of potential involvement beyond lets get 150K and build it......I don't think it's about fund raising at all.

BTW there seemed to be no $ in the budget for PP (MCLP) and that's a shame as there seemed to be a lot of stuypid money thrown around in this budget

Agree - symbols are important. It could "mark" the start of a new Carlton era... give people hope. I would probably contribute.

bill - check out the 2006-07 budget thread which has now passed to page 2. There was $12m allocated for AFL / community sports facilities. Teh good money has it that some of this will find its way to us.

Either that or I'm going to take a dump on the front steps of the Treasury Building.

In that case, Mikkey, we should have a big bronze statue of The Ghosts optimism... ie, a big Gin Bottle

I found 150,000 of them...

Like I said - good idea - bad timing (unless it is part of a broader plan).
