Looking at this weeks line up just makes me miserable and is further proof we have the worst list in the league by a country mile.
B McGrath (20) Livingston (4) Thornton (32)
HB Scotland (29) Whitnall (8) Teague (15)
C Houlihan (33) Simpson (6) Prendergast (28)
HF Stevens (24) Fevola (25) Wiggins (34)
F Lappin (12) Koutoufides (43) McLaren (10)
Foll French (11) Walker (12) Murphy (3)
Int (from) Bannister (31), Betts (19), Bentick (40), Bryan (27), Longmuir (21), Russell (2), Sporn (36)
Of the players named in the starting 18, I ask the question how many of these guys would honestly get a game in a top 8 - 10 side?
I suggest maybe 4 - 5 max. Whitnall, Fev, Stevens and maybe Murphy.
Guys like McGrath, Livo, Teague, Prendergast, Wiggins, McClaren, French, Houlihan, Sporn, Longmuir & Bannister are all rubbish.
Robert Walls made a good point on radio last night when Libba was on 3AW. He suggested that a lot of Carlton supporters would not be pleased with Kennedy and Blackwell being dropped and guys like Teague and Longmuir being selected. Walsy said what is the point of having these guys in the side when we know what they can do.
Libba's response was that guys like Teague have been playing great footy for the Bullants over the last 6 weeks and deserve a go in the seniors. That is a load of crap.
They do not deserve a go because all they will ever be is good reserve players.
We want to see how good our kids are and we should be working towards 2007 and beyond.
For example Jordan Russell should be in the seniors and given ground time. Same with Blackwell and Kennedy.
Craig Flint should be promoted to the senior list. He has not missed a beat all year for the bullants. This is possible as Davies appears to be out long term.
Sure we cannot have 22 youngsters running around in the seniors but we should pencil out the guys we already know a not up to it and build a side for the future.
Cannot wait for the year to end. This year will only get worse.
I'm watching one worse with Essendon* 88 points behind at 3/4 time. We actually beat them!
Besides the one's you mentioned, Scotland played in 2 GF sides, hence a top2, probably Lappin, Simpson, Walker, Bentick, Houlihan would be chances if you want to talk top 10 sides. Of the injuries Waite and Fisher would be handy asquistions to most teams and last year, not this year, I'm sure Kouta would've have made most sides. But I won't include him now. You may be surprised how well some of these guys could play in decent committed sides that have run and plenty of options available at the contest and up ahead instead of being behind the ball. They would probably blend in nicely. Most sides these days have average footballers in them. Of the others, Teague's been a B & F in a better year of recent times so I would describe him as rubbish, and McGrath's been handy at times.
PS, start of last qtr make that 106 pts.
