I agree with you there mate, and he's definitely a 50/50 to be on the list next year, but if he shows just enough, we have an opportunity to trade another clearance mid like Stevens or Sporn (if they ignore the medical) and spare him another year on the list, plus score a draft pick.

He's certainly not in our best 22, but if Bentick goes down, Kouta needs a hand.

I would equivilate Blackwell more to Scotland than Bentick and Smith, but he's certainly smarter than Scotland around the clearances.

And as I said, Smith seems to offer a tiny bit more flexibility than Bentick. Time will tell though. :D

If your looking for a positive I think you needed to be at the game.

- Smith running 60m to sheppard after just getting on the ground.

- Walker taking yet another step today. He woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, gave a spray to Fev, Simmo, Carlos, Matty Lappin and Stevo though out the game. He was really demanding the ball today.

- Banno was great too and he's profile in the record was so funny. You can tell him Tex and Fish are good mates.

- Carlos was awesome! That run down the wing was one of the best things I have seen all year just wish he had of hit a target.

Smith, Bentick and Blackwell lack pace....I dont see room for all of them in the senior team. Smith is a good goer like Jon McCormack was..but IMHO I think McCormack was better...
I think Jessie is playing for his spot even at this early stage..Richmond are very quick...no names like Foley and White left our blokes standing flat footed....Deledio was Judd like.....we lack pure leg speed..I mean players who can switch on the after burners and kick clear of other players from a standing start.
I think this is a important issue when looking at Bryce Gibbs, I'm not suggesting you wouldnt take him but i think if you did you would have to compliment him with some speedsters with our other picks.......with either our PP pick or 2nd rnder we need a genuine speedster who has has skill....

In a couple of years we should have good pace in the midfield with Murphy, Simpson, Russell, Walker and Betts who all have good speed off the mark. My main concern at the moment is our poor disposal.

I think Blackwell is definitely the best option of our "slow" brigade due his superior skills and footy smarts.

Deledio, Judd, Pearce, Davey.Lovett etc are express...you need express to match them....we physically had trouble running some of the Richmond players down..I know you look slow chasing but we are slow.....a player like Danyle Pearce taken late in the draft would have been a real bonus....to think he was overlooked liked Davey as well...

Attacking style of footy, and a decent score.

Fisher was good. Setanta was exciting.

Walker and Carrazzo were pretty good. Both continue to improve their disposal.

Backline was okay considering we were again utterly flogged in the middle. Our main need for improvement are three midfielders and a top ruckman.

Having said that Barney battled very well today. Just a battler but provides leadership with his workrate and determination.

Setanta very good. Not sure why everyone focusses on his clangers. I thought he waited well for options under pressure and hit most targets left and right. Was dragged back to the square so couldn't get much run after quarter time. The Tiges belted us in the middle so were able to play the game on their terms. At present Setanta is a better kick than Waite Carazzo, Fisher, McGrath and several others. Just needs to learn the subtleties of the game, but his improvement in the past 3 months has been great.

Thornton was terrific and has been great since he came into a crap side in 02.

banno, v. good, keep him.
wiggo, thought he was ordinary, others saw it differently
walker v good but needs to improve disposal
fev few opportunites but did okay should have kicked 5, but showed clearly why he shouldn't be captain by a few lazy actions particulalrly not covering for walker on the kick out. Good to see walker tell him clearly what he should be doing.
Kouta was pretty good and we desperately need another clearance man. Blackwell may be one, love AB and Smith's endeavour but they are battlers at best. I agree with Elwood on Johnny McCormack, could find the pill and should have been given another couple of years

Also how the hell did Raines slip to 70 in the draft. May take out the NRS. Looks and moves so much like his old man, but with more grunt.

Interesting game. The Tiges are ahead of us and have a number of very promising young guys, but Richo and a few other talls will be gone over the next few years so we might catch them. We MUST draft better than anyone because we are a fair way behind at present and it is hard to see who will be worse than us in 07.

Setanta growing with every outing. Well done to the MC for handling him correctly imo.

AW really leading the way. Showed nice aggression & passion yesterday. Plays with heart.

We've got too many "good ordinary players" playing atm but Bannister is one of the better ones and should be retained imo. Very servicable yesterday.

Bannister has been good for a while and just didnt get the opportunities he should have....plays in front and has now developed some reasonable disposal skills where he can hit targets and make decent decisions.

He also gives us a bit of run of half back and is one of our better athletes....you add up his Bullant and senior games this year and he has hasnt played too many bad ones and in my mind can look forward to another contract....

Stevens and Sporn clearance mids?

And to say that Sporn will get any offers in the draft?

We nearly got Sporn out the door last year. He's on fire in the VFL at the moment, he has to attract some interest at 23.

Clearance mids and in-and-unders are not one in the same. Judd is a clearance mid, for example.

Whatever jimmae. If you can't get a regular start with the bottom team, how can you be of any trade value?

23 is old for a player who can't get a regular spot, who was drafted at 18.

The way things are going at the moment we can only look up, stay positive, other clubs have gone through this. There was promise in the first quarter on Sunday, we need to keep that momentum flowing for every quarter... kids are improving and they are the future given more confidence and improvement with each game. We just have to be patient and let DP do his job without constantly bagging him.

Was that guy on he's own?

There was a spare seat up with me and Danielle that you should have used.... would have enjoyed smelling you after your half time smoke!!

With a $12,000.00 per week pay packet comes scrutiny Blueyonder.
Especially at a club on it's knees financially.

If Denis performs well, great.
If he is inconsistent in his approach, he deserves a kick in the arse.
He's not immune from that.

A positve was having my two little nephews there and because they are both a handful, didn't really get to see the game. :?

However, I did see Setanta footage last night on WLF - he looks the goods and good luck to him and us for the future. :)

Betts, Bannister, Walker and Thornton.

Setanta competed and ran well. Amazing what some game time does!

Raines chances of beating Shaw for the NRS MUST have improved.

Bowden's throw into the corporates on Level 2 at the final siren was AWESOME! The catch by the dude on the balcony was equally impressive. Deserved to keep the ball... curse the Nazi ground staff!
