saying the game's changes have impacted on Lance (etc) is different to saying he never could play. Even you at one stage defended him Synners (as C.G. loved pointing out to us all - though as H.E Hinton (?) once said That was Then This is Now). I think people can handle the queries over him now (to differing degrees I'll admit) but to suggest he could never play was simply wrong.

It's like the simplisitc argument Walker can't kick. He can. He hits targets, kicks goals etc, The discussion should be is he hitting them often enough - or when is he mostly likely to miss a target etc. But most people are lazy when they argue, take the extreme position (call themselves a diety?) to make their point seem the correct one.

There are reasons Lance has been kept - and those reasons change from season to season. The discussion is - are those points more important to this club at this point in time than the reasons for trading him?

More fruitful than hack/champion debates that get nowhere.

If we are a slice of Carlton then perhaps we are a reflection of just what is wrong with this club. If we argue from extremes, take delight in belitting anyone or anything that takes a different view, always take the extreme position, see everything in black and white then we should not be surprised that nothing is resolved in our discussions - we are not trying to resolve them to a point where we see the points and evaluate (with the possibility of change). We are trying to be right - eg Tanking v not tanking. - its all cake and eat it too crap.

I hope the club is not the same as this site, I hope it is far more reasonable - if it the same then we we are F@%&#!!

He used to be overated and in some quarters he still is.

But as a crucial player and an aspiring captain he is not even a front liner.

Well if Lance is fitter today than he was when he was twenty... how come he is less effective now than he was back then???

I keep saying it.. Lance would have been in the team of the century if he played in the 70s.

But he isnt...

Give Sinners a break. He sees Lance as his big chance to be right about something.

For those who haven't seen it already, follow this link and have a look at the big fella in full flight and possibly the closest he's come to being right.

This isn't disrespectful?

My friend, the way I see it, you have very little respect for anyone who doesn't agree or fit with your opinion...

Synbad wrote:

hmmmm...

With all due respect, I find it tough to respect anybody who seems to be so fueled by negativity and hatred... and someone who can believe that finding possitives and actually going along to a game to support the team and not pick the shit out of it each week is a bad thing.

Wolfister thats your opinion and i dont have a problem with it...

I am not filled with hatred.. im filled with frustration.... and i feel let down by an amateur board... a coach that has no clue.. and senior players that get treated like gods when they have done @#$%&! all over 4 years...

do you think some of those guys have treated the club and the supporters with respect???

the quicker there are changes to the psyche of this footy club the better...

you might not agree.. but thats ok... you obviously are happy with how things have been running along..

and as a sidenote... you must be one of those people that think things will just fall into place... and everything is great.

I have news for you sunshine.. there are another 15 clubs in the afl all trying to improve and be number 1... and all those clubs have a better infrustructure to succeed than we do because they created the infrustructure.

You just go hoping that things just magically turn around like Harry Potter style...

ok???

JHow many minutes did Blackwell and smith play today???

Look- Synbad brings some really good things to TC-
he generates discussion, he is the chief provocatoir, he makes you want ot punch your computer screen... but think of him as the Philip Adams, or John Laws of the TC world-
a lot of what he says is for him to sit at home on his computer and giggle at how much controversy he can cause..

Things can't change overnight...

Pagan and Collins et al were left with the most dire situation seen in football since... well since Fitzroy... but it was certainly the worst state our club has ever been in ever.

It's easy to say that we can no longer blame the penalties and we have to move on etc - but equally it is way too easy to say "well this isn't working so we need to get rid of everything and start again again".

Just ask Richmond post 1982.

I believe what most people have seen this year is a much more competitive Carlton unit, fuelled mainly by the improvement in our kids. We've been in a position to win a lot more games this year than we were last year, and but for some very ordinary quarters, we would have. But one bad quarter is a problem that is very common in a young developing side.

Hell, even Harry Potter struggled a bit in his formative years.

So "sunshine" just because some people like to see things in a more positive light, doesn't mean they're waiting for magic... it may just mean that they're realistic and patient.

And realistically - Blackwell has has shown a lot this year, but he's a kid and he's looking tired... Jesse Smith clearly hasn't the size to match it in the big league yet - however, just as Simpson was guided through, perhaps guiding Blackers and Jesse will see the same results we've seen in Simpson this year.

Have you noticed Simmo this year? He's been very good.

But hey - lets get rid of all our older guys and just play kids who don't have the bodies to get through a full season... that makes much more sense to me...

Who's relying on magic again?

I noticed Simmo 4 years ago .. the coach was about to flick him 2 years ago...
Have you seen Pearce at Port.. or Polo .. or kids from every other club?????

Just because we have 2 or 3 players that are coming along doesnt mean were home and hosed does it... because i defy you to pick a club that has nothing coming through...

and yes... some people like to be positive... but that doesnt mean thats the reality of the situation does it????

when your last you must be critical because something youre doing is right.... dont you think???

or do you think were just unlucky??!??!?!?

The reality is you have to be realistic... and the board has been here for 4 years.. thats longer than Jeff Kennett's first term to turn the state of Victoria around...

Now get back to sitting in a circle around a fire with your friends and singing Kumbaya...

There is room enough in this world for everybody....
Ps Smith is a strong chance to be delisted... and just because Simmo is doing ok doesnt mean you can duplicate the same formula with Blackwell..

On Blackers how much game time did he get today???

any idea??

Doesn't mean you can't either... how dare I try to see a positive...

He got two fifths of bugger all time on the ground today... why? Cos he's a kid with a small frame that's not ready to take on a full season in the middle against bigger bodies. He looks tired at the moment - but he's in his rookie year and he's shown that he has what it takes... WITH TIME.

And hey - lets get rid of all our bigger bodies and play all the lighter ones into the ground as this will get us to the promissed land.

The following is a list of clubs where this has worked :-

[start list]

[end list]

This is hearsay

This is what you get for trying to have a discussion with the great Synbad

And nobody said otherwise... negativity however can get tiresome, and, in my opinion, can be more of a cancer to the club than anything else.

If we're quoting TV shows, for me "I'm sorry Pumpkins, but I just can't subscribe to your negative outlook on life" works..

See Woflister.... just because the club does things its not always right.

for example... We cheated the salary cap... or we took OReilly... or Mansfield.. or Saddington... or we beuilt the stands and didnt leave earlier...
Or we didnt and dont push membership with any creativity...

See you call it negativity i dont..

I think apathy and being a sheep and supporting stupidity and mediocrity is a cancer....

But i still think even though youre all those things there is room enough for you...

So dont worry "pumpkin" you stick to your 1%ers.. thats your specialty...

And the Simmo thing isnt heresay.. youre the guy that gets the tip on a stock after everyone else has profited from it.. and you jump on it abit late...

But thats ok too... its the apathy/ sheep/ mediocrity thing .... that you call being positive....

It's moments like these when I understand why people say what they say when they get warned after an argument with the great Synbad.

Your last post did nothing but attempt to belittle and patronise.

This is why I have little regard for your opinion, and even less regard for your "vision" for our club...

I have to say that I see things in both what Wolfy and Synners are saying. I agree that things are looking up for us on field, ad I think that we don't necessarily need to be ultra radical with our list. Having said that, I think the club has been too conservative in the number of delistings and the speed in which it is turning over some of the players that have been obviously not going to make it.

But I can also see Synners point. The club has been reactive, and I don't think that waiting for the team to start winning games is an adequate strategy for the survival and eventual prosperity of this club.

you can hardly expect Synbad to be well gentile (pardon the pun, Josh  ) in a thread that started to have a go at him and wasn't deleted in a split second.
