As this Thornton business is a bit overwhelming, while researching Brent Heaver I stumbled upon this link. This maybe old news, so if its, we can all just watch it slip back into pages four, seven and thirteen of forum obscurity.

http://www.footballinvective.com/featur ... sides.html

Worst sides in the AFL from 1990 - 2003,

CARLTON
B Murray Vance Mick Martyn David Kernahan
HB Joel Careless Trent Hotton Michael McGuane
C Brett Backwell Kade Simpson Heath Culpitt
HF Brett Sholl James Cook Craig Devonport
F Stephen Oliver Rohan Welsh Simon Minton Connell
R Barnaby French Adam White Damien Lock
INT Tim Powell Scott Spalding Lindsay Smith David Gallagher

What'd we think?
What changes would you make?

It's interesting to see Simmo in the centre and compair it to where he as a player now, of course it's very much understandable, also with French in the ruck another solid, hard-worker who held his own over the past three years. Backwell too, SANFL medallist.

Anyrate,

David Kernahan was a decent FB before h done his knee. More then held his own against Dunstall in particular. That was an era of great FF

A bit harsh on Oliver and Minton Connell.

Harsh on Hotton, Backwell, Simpson, Culpitt, Sholl, Oliver, Minton-connell and especially Welsh. All would walk into our current side. Sounds like it was posted by somebody who had never seen any of these guys play and just looked at the stats of players who played under 50 games for us.

That side would go alright...depending on the strength of the other worst side we were playing.

At it's best between 1993 and 2003 (playing for Carlton) the stats for our boys would be:

B: Murray Vance 9pos
Mick Martyn 11pos
David Kernahan 9pos

HB: Joel Careless 0pos
Trent Hotton 15pos, 8marks, 5goals
Michael McGuane 10pos, 1.1goals

C: Brett Backwell 12pos, 3goals
Kade Simpson 0pos
Heath Culpitt 8pos, 2goals

HF: Brett Sholl 27pos, 1goal
James Cook 15pos, 10marks, 6.2goals
Craig Devonport 4pos, 2goals

F: Stephen Oliver 15pos, 7marks, 2.2goals
Rohan Welsh 15pos, 9marks, 5.4goals
Simon Minton Connell 7goals

R: Barnaby French 11pos, 25HO, 2goals
Adam White 14pos, 3goals
Damien Lock 24pos, 8marks

INT: Tim Powell 16pos, 2.2goals
Scott Spalding 10pos, 0.1goals
Lindsay Smith 4pos, 17HO
David Gallagher 15pos, 1goal

Score: 39.12 (246)

Low possession, high scoring team.

I would say yes. And for that matter, did Careless?

I don't think there was ever a player on our list called Careless?

Was he a Tasmanian drafted in the early 90s?

If memory serves me correctly, it was back related hamstrings/groin that killed his career.

Very hard to pick a worst off side in the 90's when a lot of the guys had limited opportunities.

Where's the Batman avatar Game?

I was getting a laugh out of that.

Bit hard on Rohan Welsh as well full knee reconstruction and a drunken fall down a hill breaking his leg can say a definite lack of opportunity for him

Careless must have been our 90's version of Strauchnie. No recolection whatsoever.
