Reckons Carltons probelm is that our second tier has fallen away and that there is a general lack of confidence amongst the group. Highlighted Richmond as a team that supposedly had a 'shit' list that is currently playing weel mainly due to belief. Said all great teams have to have a large dose of self belief.

What I said before about self belief-- probably the most vital thing a footy club can have.

GWS, please go back and reread my post before calling me stupid.

I will put it simply for you. Pure talent does not auotmatically equal success (Angwin is a recent example), proper development and the installation of belief is critical to gaining success.

As Synbad himself has higlighted there are few standouts in TAC this year and as we know football is a team game. You can have the best player in the league in your team but if you do not have the support around him the team is going nowhere. The trick in gaining success is to get the 'not so goods' better so they complement the 'really goods'

If we sit around and wait for the 'talent' we are and will go nowhere. However if we instill an ethos of hard work, disicpline and belief, then when we get the talent, then that will be the icing on the cake so to speak.

Hear, hear.

And, what's more...

Playing soft, lying down, tanking, whatever you want to call it is taking the easy way. The idea that "oh well, we're having a bad year this year, but we'll lie down and get picks 1 and 2 or 3 at the end of the year, and she'll be right is just as dangerous a mindset as patching up "Because Carlton never rebuilds."

Playing for PPs is this decade's version of chequebook recruiting.

SHIT YEAH.

Stick your priority picks. The two years that we 'earnt' priority picks were, for those of you with a short memory, F*CKING SHITHOUSE. Never again.

Oh so you dont think were shithouse eh???
Look we can be shithouse and come out of this with ythe best 2 young kids and the best player througth the psd or we can be shithouse and come out of it with a goodish kid.. and a goodish player.
Never again?????

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO?????????

Ok 99 we thought we could win a premiership.
First round second round and third round for OReilly and Mansfield.
2000.. Livo Wiggo and Sporn .
2001. Waite Davies Thornton.
2002.Simmo.. Fisher and Norman.(French)
2003.Walker.
(2002 and 2003 we lost SIX EARLY PICKS!!)
2004. Russell Hartlett,Blackwell,Bryan,Raso ,Betts(Chambers and Longmuir)

Ok we have a wee bit there but we have lost players like Ratten. Bradley,SoS, Brown,McKay,Christou,Hickmont,.. a host of others who dissented... Kouta on the wrong side of the hill...and Campo and Lance havent stepped up...

I think looking at the ledger were going backwards and the cupboard is pretty bare and were waiting for players like Davies, Carrazzo, Bentick,Setanta,Livo etc to fill the void and become champions.

Youre dreaming!!!!

Carlton will not lay down and play to finish last and receive PPs.

I dare anyone to suggest that to Denis.

BUT, we are rapidly falling behind the pack. Our skills have disappeared, our confidence has disappeared, and subsequently we are likely to lose more games than we win this year.

The main point is that if we finish without more than 5.5 wins, we have a chance to pick up a few extra exciting young un's in the draft, or trade for some others. Once the season is done and dusted, draft time is exciting. "Who will we pick? Who will become a champion for us?"

The fans love it, the sponsors love it. Excitement will once again be generated around the club.

Finishing 10th or so doesn't help us at that time. But the club will still try to finish 9th,10, 11th, whatever. The club will deal with whatever picks we end up with. But we will be better off if we have a priority pick.

Doesn't mean we are structuring ourselves to get one.

You guys are all getting your knickers in a twist for nothing.

You're DELIBERATELY misreading us, Syn. If we are genuinely shithouse, then SO BE IT. If that's the case, then we will end up with PPs. But PLAYING for the PPs is the coward's way out, and I WON'T HAVE MY TEAM DO IT.

NOT NOW

NOT EVER.

The problem with the club is the success of the club itself.
We never rebuild at Carlton...cos were Carlton...
We wont go to the MCG were redeveloping Optus... cos were Carlton..
Noone ever leaves Carlton... cos were Carlton..
We dont need PPs .. cos were Carlton....

yes we are Carlton ... but the world is changing daily....

Or if synbad gets on the board using a groundswell of support from Carlton members on the internet forums. Running of course on the 'tank for picks' platform, instead of Carlton One, it will be called Carlton Want Pick One.

One could argue that we have neither the best player in the competition, nor the "support" around him, and possibly too many "not so goods" - so what is the priority? Recruiting the "best" or building and recruiting the "support"???

You can have all the support players in the world, but just what exactly will they be supporting if you don't have the "best"???? We'll be staring at the same 16 premiership cups for along time if we don't get talent into this club.
