Would be quite happy with 200-250K one year contract, take the VC off him and put some performance based money in there (specifically related to goals and goal-assists, not possessions). Put him in the forward line and see what happens.

If he does do an Allan (who was on base, which is a big difference) then just play him in the ressies for the rest of the year and then let him go. I doubt this would happen though.

So Synbad, do you think we are getting value for money for Stevens on 500K?

Why would anyone want to show leadership under this bloke Pagan. I cant beleive the joy some people have on this site writing about who will be cut and who will stay it makes you sick. Stating that Denis is doing a grand job cleaning out the overpaid players who are not showing him respect . What the hell has he done to deserve this respect lets see.

He recruited Martyn so he could play 300 - you have to respect him for that

He belittled Brett Ratten in front of spectators and media in Sydney - Gee that deserves respect.

He is one of the highest paid coaches in the league and the side is on the bottom despite turning over 31 players - you would respect him for that.

He ridicules the players week in week out by stating football is 90 % in the head and he has a bunch of headcases who dont get it - That deserves respect.

He plays favourites with players - Got to respect him for that.

Gee you can really see why Whitnal and Campo would want to show leadership you can really see why they would want to step up . I hope they both do go to another club and I hope that next time they come up against Pagan ( I wont say Carlton because this is not the Carlton I knew growing up) that they both play blinders and give the official up yours to all those supporters and Paganites that wanted them out.

This it's my way or the highway attitude that the club is adopting will end up leaving us dwelling at the bottom of the ladder for years to come

Leaders have loyalty. Loyalty is one of the hallmarks of a great leader. You look at Kernahan, you look at Voss, you look at Chris Grant, you look at players of that ilk. Players like that turn down offers from other clubs when they had every reason to leave.

Loyalty extends itself to being loyal to the coach rather than being dissenting. Loyalty to the coach means aligning yourself with the rules and standards that the coach has laid down.

Why should I show you any respect Sydney Blue, when all you do is decide that just because Pagan's made a couple of mistakes, been hamstrung by lack of picks that he's incompetent? You are entitled to your view but you consistently refuse to acknowledge the problems Pagan has had since he arrived.

The Carlton you grew up with disappeared after about 1997 when Kernahan left and was gone when Silvagni left. The Carlton you grew up with showed loyalty, showed determination, showed pride in the jumper, pride in the Navy Blue, pride in the TEAM performance.

All it takes is for one or two key players to not toe the line and you have a sinking ship. The core of Carlton is rotten and it needs to be cleaned out.

Sydney, picture yourself as the CEO of a company where the employees are overpaid, there are a lot of new graduates but the senior management are underperforming and do not mentor the grads. Your senior management have no fire, no passion, are self-interested do not like the new CEO and want to just exploit the grads. Also, you are not allowed to recruit good new staff because the ACCC has said that you broke some rules. What are you going to do?

Now picture yourself as a shareholer in this company? You know all about this. What would you do? Would you sack the new CEO even though he has a track record of success at another company? Or would you clean out the inept senior management first and put people with fresh ideas and talent in place?

Think about it, then think about at what stage Ratten, Allan, Beaumont, Murphy etc., were at in their careers and what their ages were.

The only reason why Camporeale and Whitnall are still there IMO are because their contracts were still in force at the end of 2003 and we had no choice because no other club would take them.

Have a good think about it. We haven't had a head kicker at Carlton in years. Sometimes each workplace needs one every now and then. Sometimes people get hurt, but sometimes for an organisation to move forward it has to happen.

The time has come at Carlton. It hurts. But whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Synbad - the saying goes "too many chiefs not enough indians". In our case the opposite applies. Maybe Campo/Lance were not cut out as leaders and there's nothing wrong with that as long as its reflected in their remuneration.

In regards to adapting l think Campo could do no worse than study one Craig Bradley who in the twilight of his career became a much more defensive and accountable footballer!! Personally as l've stated before l'd much rather Campo leave the club.

Seems I have got up somebodies nose.

As usual good rant but little substance.

1. Campo did take a pay cut and it basically worked out that he would be paid over four what he was originally going to get over three.

2. Campo has consistantly for the past decade being amongst our best players and still is.

3. Campo is in negoations with the club, there is always to-ing and fro-ing regarding this with the majority of players.

4. Synbad forgives Fev for exhibiting the same behaviour that he alledges and slams Campo for, ie Poor disicpline on the field and dragging out contract negoitations. There is a word for this, it is hypocrisy. Synbad also forgets to mention that Fevs last contract was signed after he had nearly been delisted.

5. Just regards Fev and Campos output this year. I would put Campo ahead easily. Fev to be frank has been, Wizard Cup aside. been dissappointing for 12 months.

6. If Campo was a relic of the cancer eating at the club, he would have been traded during the clean out a few years ago. Pagan said at the time that Campo was required player. Synbad seems to foget that Whits was the first to put his hand up for a pay cut back then and that Campo came out publicy for Dennis. Campo was also NOT present at the infamous BBQ that lead to the player revolt.

7. As for Campo going to Dennis and telling him where he would play. Oh yes I am sure Dennis would love that. The last players to do that were out of the club on thier butts at years end. Campo is however in the leadership group and they do have some input into the 'plan' for the team.

As I have said before and I will say it again. Never ever let facts and analysis get in the way of a good rant.

I see absolutely no problem with a player sticking his hand up and saying, "I want a crack at this guy, ie Aker." He may not get the job, but at least a player is showing they are prepared to take on a challange and a potentially difficult job for their team.
I applaud that type of initiative and I don't think it should be only senior players doing it.
No different than Livo stating, "I want Brown." Denis may have Thornton already pencilled in, but I reckon he'd be rapt that Livo had the balls to nominate himself for the job.
Regards Pedro.

Yes you are right here but they never sort offers from other clubs like Fevola is at the moment
Loyalty extends itself to being loyal to the coach rather than being dissenting. Loyalty to the coach means aligning yourself with the rules and standards that the coach has laid down.

the coach has to earn the Loyalty first

Why should I show you any respect Sydney Blue, when all you do is decide that just because Pagan's made a couple of mistakes, been hamstrung by lack of picks that he's incompetent? You are entitled to your view but you consistently refuse to acknowledge the problems Pagan has had since he arrived.

Theres been more than a couple of mistakesThe Carlton you grew up with disappeared after about 1997 when Kernahan left and was gone when Silvagni left. The Carlton you grew up with showed loyalty, showed determination, showed pride in the jumper, pride in the Navy Blue, pride in the TEAM performance.

Yes and you wont get that again while the coach has this divide and conquer attitude

Also, you are not allowed to recruit good new staff because the ACCC has said that you broke some rules. What are you going to do?

Picture yourself as being an employee of that company and they bring in a head kicker who brings along an old mate who takes the position you have been working for just so he can go out on full retirement benifits
Now picture yourself as a shareholer in this company? You know all about this. What would you do? Would you sack the new CEO even though he has a track record of success at another company? Or would you clean out the inept senior management first and put people with fresh ideas and talent in place?

Picture yourself as being a shareholder of a company who has watched half its long serving staff being sent off as being disloyal and then watch your shareholdings plummet to the depths of despair

Think about it, then think about at what stage Ratten, Allan, Beaumont, Murphy etc., were at in their careers and what their ages were.

Still no need to treat them like shit hte way Ratten was treated was disgraceful

We had a good Head kicker there for years didn't take shit off anyone. We have just gone from one who was the president to one who is the coach. Trust me I have been in Senoir Management myself for years and Head Kicking gets you no where. Incentives are always far more beneficial than threats
The time has come at Carlton. It hurts. But whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Its getting dam close to killing me

It's good to see Synbad having another rant, surprisingly we can guess the topic, tone etc etc. More blah, blah, blah, populist crap.

Given all that he knows about success, leadership and applying oneself to the task at hand I remain surprised that the club hasn't recruited him to undertake motivational work & leadership training for the young guys!

Is it possible Synbad that your ever so slightly jaded view of Campo & Whitnall precludes you from seeing anything good that they add to the club.

Maybe they will not be there next year, maybe they will be but on significantly less money, but one thing's for sure, Synbad will always find another target to vent his rage against.

Is this how we treat 200 game, AA, B&F winner, premiership footballers these days at Carlton?

Carlton: The new Richmond. Get your boots out! It's time to give a champ a lacing!

We are running a football club, a business, I am not paying 500K a year for the output Campo is delivering....we are paying Chris Judd wages and getting Rhyce Shaw results...
Its the clubs terms and conditions or hit the road....200 game AA...dont care....we have looked after Campo very well and he owes us plenty and he aint delivering...

The fact we cant get a nibble on him or any interest just shows he should be accepting whateva deal we offer him and being humble about it....No way known would I be dictated to by a player who has had it so good for so many years....

Same goes for all our other 500K a year stars....win us some games or we will find some others who can....

You know what's really funny, most of you "abusing" Campo & Whitnall are the same ones calling for everyone to be supporters of the club.

Just in case you missed it they ARE CARLTON PLAYERS.

I could go on but would probably get A SECOND WARNING.

Disgraceful.

Propped him up? What crap! If that's the case I made a poor career decision. Didn't realize that I could have played AFL football got 27 touches a game, while everyone else does the work.

And considering he came 4th in our B&F in 2004 I would say last season.

Who votes on the best and fairest? Synbad? You? Pagan? Coaching Staff? Past Greats? Forum Posters in Sydney?

Thank @#$%&! it not TalkingCarlton, TBV or CSC. He would never get a vote.

Campo and Whitnall have no pride in Carlton letting the team get to the stage its in at the moment. Campo has been playing like a sooky boy this year. Whitnall pulls his finger out when it suits him.

I have had enough of these players, playing for there own pockets.

Campo always struck me as someone who was CAPABLE of winning a brownlow one day, but his mind is weak, and he does not have pride in his play. This is why opposition players know how to get under his skin. He is predictable.

As for Whitnall, I think his body just cannot handle AFL at the moment. He has not got the discipline to get his body right. You always hear how good he is going in the pre-season, fat farms, type around waist etc, but what does he do for the rest of the season. One only knows.

We need to get rid of players who dont play for the jumper.

Elwood don't believe the mud throwing.

What if I where to inform you that Campo should not have played the last few weeks? or that Kouta should not have played last week? or that Whitnall is busting a gut trying to play the coach wants him but it's not his natural game? or that Houlihan can't run? or that Stevens (that you know)......that's all I'm saying.

Some in here have an agenda and will have you believe what they want.
