Vindictive turd… where is the insight/value/worth of that piece of writing.

Patrick Smith wrote:
have to say that while you two blokes (Denis and Collo) keep banging on about the damage caused by the loss of draft picks you seem to conveniently forget the reason they removed your first two choices in 2002 and 2003.

No, we get it… Carlton were serial cheaters, we were punished, it hurt us. But in the current socialistic draft and salary cap AFL world we exist in, surely we are allowed to question the harshness and ramifications of this decision as having a bearing on our current situation. Or should we just fork out for more Vaseline and go see Mr. Evans again?

Patrick Smith wrote:
You might also want to mention that in 2003 the AFL allowed you a priority pick and you took Andrew Walker at No.2 in the national draft. You keep forgetting to throw that into the interviews and news conferences.

Surely he’s not inferring that the verdict from Black Friday should have been amended ‘cos lo and behold we were crap that year and didn’t get 5 wins on the board.

And not mentioning Andrew Walker… so any other side having a single 17/18 y.o. high draft pick come into the side should have nothing to complain about? No pressure AW, you just need to carry the team, after all the AFL was magnanimous enough to allow you to become a Navy Blue… and as a 25 gamer you should be ready for the challenge.

Look out for Patrick Smith… coming soon to a BigFooty forum near you!!!

How can a deranged nut with a grudge this big still write for newspaper, this belongs on bigfooty. Not to mention a national newspaper seen in Sydney where Optus and Dan Murphys are based.
Collo never had a heart attack is that the inference?
Collo is now responsible for the desgin and mowing the friggin grass at the Dome. And what Media did they do -compulsory press post game press conferences?
This guy is vermin and should get back up on the roof and this time finish the job.

Made my morning Bookie, particularly the line about plane passengers opting for the crash instructions over a free copy of The Australian.

What an absolute arsehole. That was the most sarcastic article I've ever read in a paper about football, and it's simply unprofessional. We can say what we like about Mike sheahan and Caro Wilson, but they would never write something that sarcastic. What an absolute dick he is.

I have a question, so if somebody knows the answer please reply.

I know he barracks for Essendon*, but that article was filled with a lot of hate. I've never seen a footy journo write with hate. Is there a real reason he hates us so much, anything in the past i don't know about or have forgotten.

I just need an explanation why a "respected" journo would write a sarcastic, hate-filled article that leaves out a lot of important facts.

He's also the only journo who thinks the penalties were fair. He even thinks we shouldn't have got Walker. Maybe he should appeal like the Indonesian prosecutors who reckon Corby should get death.

Someone explain this to me!

I realised long ago that I wouldn't use his articles to house train a puppy, let alone read them.
Yet another poor artivle that I will not read. I'm actually a little disappointed in myself that I read sections of his article that had been quoted in this thread before I realised that's what they were.

Do yourself a favour, ignore the idiot.

Why get so upset about FatPrick? That's what he's trying to do. All his articles are the same. Except when the topic is Essendon*.

Sarcastic negative diatribe. Twit not wit.

Agree with many of the sentiments here.

I quote
"And you two need to keep feeling sorry for yourselves. Sure as hell no on else is."

Well, this just sums up why this bloke is irreleavnt. There are many people in the football community, from officials to supporters who think the penalties were harsh.

And the harshness can be illustrated by some very simple aritmetic.

Lets say the Saints get pinged for doing the same this year after they finsih 4th on the ladder. Based on the AFL's 'formula' used for Carlton, and assuming one team gets a prioroty pick, St kilda would lose draft picks 13 and 29. Lets say they finish 10th the next year. Lose picks 7 and 23. So they lost 7,13,23 & 29

Now in any mans language, thats an enormous difference to 1,2,15. and 3, 19.

And even Patrick points out the anomoly of us losing a PP one year yet getting one the next. That was the only pertinent point this buffoon made.

Maybe this genius could have a crack at a Walkley award by doing some real investigative journalism.

Maybe find answers to questions like; What has happened to Hird and Lloyd's websites? and
Why did Essendon* delist or trade, very cheaply, 4 premiership players the week our penalties were handed down?
Why has Essendon* been soooo hamstrung by player payments that they have plumetted to the base of the ladder
Why did Melbourne trade Woewoful to Collingwood just 2 years after a brownlow medal and the very week our penalties were handed down and offer to pay a substantial amount of his salary?

He needs to get off his fat arse and actually do some work rather than rely on his p1ssweak wit. This is the oldest trick in the journalist book, make a pathetic controversial statement to get people to read your story.....what a weazel.

Actually this was not an anomaly. The penalties were handed out in 2002. At that time it was not known if we would have a priority pick in 2003. I suspect even FatPrick would find it difficult justifying why a penalty could take 5 picks OR 6 picks, but we don't know yet how many we'll take until we see how you finish next year.

No this is not the case, the penalties were handed down the week prior to the 2002 draft which included that draft. The AFL DID know that we were last and in need of rebuilding, but denied a priority pick until 2003. We did trade our 15th(?) pick to Port for Barny. That deal was done during trade week prior to the penalties.

And who was the Essendon* President that was in office for the period when they were done for Salary Cap cheating.

Not the same man who rips off the Football going public by charging $3.90 for a 500ml bottle of water that costs his company 50 cents is it.

Majority know my feelings about this guy and the rest of this horrible sorry tale, but on this occasion, I think he has merits in calling Collo/Pagan to stop whinging. They have had three years to get the club moving forward, IMHO on field, we have not achieved this and can be argued we have gone backwards, although that is far fetched.

We have gone forward SB, the problem is we've moved ahead by 5% and the other teams have gone by 15-20%. There is absolutley no doubt this is because of the penalties.

The stop gap players from other clubs were an absolute must. Thank god we will never know how pathetic we would have performed with the bunch of spastics we had left over after 2002.

Surrey keeping us out of the first 2 rounds of the draft for 2002 and 2003 wasn't exactly designed to assist us in moving forward. Unfortunately we were already in the shitter prior to the penalties being placed on us (2002 wooden spoon refers).

Womack - good point. In fact, I was proud of myself at the footy on the weekend. I made sure that none of us in our group bought a pie/drink or anything at the football. We had our meal after the game.

I don't want to give any money to a company like that.

The week before i did buy some beers but at least I didn't get any food at the footy.

He also said the then board had refused to co-operate .

That's crap, the incoming board came clean to the AFL and gave them the information they wanted to know.Yet they still hit the club with a tonne of bricks even though we had co-operated with Demetriou in his underground bunker.

I found this interesting tidbit on Essendon*'s rorting and loved how it mentions the years they cheated:http://bombersfc.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=87504

Quote:
In 1999, the Bombers were found guilty of salary cap offences during the 1992, 1994, 1995 and 1996 seasons. The club lost their 1st and 2nd round draft picks at the 1999 National AFL Draft, was unable to participate in the pre-season and rookie drafts that year and fined $276,274
