can't so what did he say!!!!!

It is 18 minutes - hard to give a full report. Denis was very composed. Happy with first half as the instructions were to play hard and work hard especially without the ball. Had praise fro Carazzo (clear the he will get more runs in the midfield) and Simpson. Felt that they just cant sustain the effort. Talked bout the lack of talent but would not be drawn to strong statements regarding "clean out" - but you can read between the lines. Clear indication that Fisher and Betts will be back next week. Was very clear that he has not lost his "fire" and that he has a little black book for when things turn around. Interesting comments about Fevola, was very disappointed with him after some good weeks. Said he never coached such an enigma like him (the way he can be up and down) but clear about his talent. Was very strong about that Fev had to be signed - can't let go of such a talent in the situation we are in.
It was not so much what he said - it was more the "vibe of it" 8) . Made me feel like Pago is still in control and has a plan. But maybe it is just me hanging onto straws..

Pagan also spoke about players being judged on there work off the ball. Especially the midfield. What he was saying about Fev was in reference to Eddie Maguire " a bloke with a tv station" and what would happen to Carlton if they did not sign up. A journalist was suggesting that signing Fev now was a mistake and waiting until the season ends is better. Then you are in a better situation. Pagan responded with what would happen if he left. It is fine to talk about these things in the jornalists box but in real life you sign up your elite talent now.
To be honest I am feeling hopeful when I hear Pagan. Again talking about the midfield and the problem between "both arcs". To much pressure on the backs and not enough supply to the forwards.
Pagan sounds very realistic and will not be drawn into making big statements.

We don't discriminate at Carlton. Doesn't matter who the opposition is, week in week out the result including the losing margin is pretty much the same.

Midfield is shot and about 1/3 of the salary cap is sunk into the midfield.
Its the Bermuda Triangle of AFL football....

Totally correct.

Last year.....
Stevo arrives, has a great year
Scotland arrives, has a good year
Campo thrives with extra help in the midfield
Johnston has a good year

Now
Due to form or injuries, they've all gone backwords.

That is the start and end to all our problems.

Personally I'ld love to see Wiggo back in...someone who puts in 100% and is happy to crunch bodies..3rd quarter = soft soft soft...tackles, chases, pressure.
Don't think it would change the result, but we just have no-one setting the toughness tone

You piss off Campo altogether... play Kouta in the forward pocket till his contract expires.
Then you play Walker , Carrazzo, McGrath, Betts ,Bentick, Smith... to help out Stevens and Scotland and i bet it will function better.
Its not functioning because these two are LAZY...and what theyre doing is creating loose men for the opposition that run amok up the ground.

Never taken much notice of Pagan's press conferences.

He's the absolute master when it comes to speaking for 20 minutes and saying sweet FA.

and chuck in 2 or 3 out of Murphy, Ellis, Hurn, Jones and Swallow performing like normal afl midfielders in a couple of years.

the current midfield is offically spineless and defeatist

It's no joke though Synbad - no matter what Dennnnnnis says there's no doubt that we will have to bottom out at least one more time before we can really got our stocks of potential guns up to the same level of even an Adelaide or Geelong, let alone a West Coast or Brisbane.

I agree with everything you said above - if Campo has to go then let him; stick Kouta in the forward pocket - he'd probably even kick 2-3 per game standing there, and put the kids in the middle, because THEY are the ones who will run their arses off, THEY are the ones who, when they become men will tackle fearlessly and throw themselves onto the smother, and THEY are the ones who will follow the team rules, who Pagan can mould to his liking, without having to watch the half-hearted efforts of most of our "leadership" group.

Bloody hell, I can't believe I was an optimist at the start of this year. What a bloody fool I have been.

Although not a kid, Bryan's a good indicator of giving fresh blood a go. Put in the kids.
Give Campo some Ants time to weigh up two years or three?
Leave Whitnall forward and don't @#$%&! around across half back bringing the ball out. Just kick the thing before they flood back.
Get Barney back to help. Get Eddie chasing.
Get Fevola a mirror.
Get wiggins in because he seems to care.
Pat Livo on the head and tell him he can play.
Give Kouta the tag of "impact player" (off the bench)
Give Davies a go and tell him he's got a few weeks to save his arse.
Ditto Norman.
And put Setanta out there to mystify them.

Is it just me or has anyone else got the impression that Matty Lappin has been doing the barest minimum all game every week and then popping up for a few goals in junk time at the end of the game? He always seems to be thereabouts in the best players. He had a woeful first half yesterday, fumbling the ball several times, but popped up with a few goals and still made it into the best players (which, strangely enough Simspon didn't seem to).

Matty has been my favourite player for a number of years now, but it disappoints me to see his approach to the footy, which seems to have been off kilter ever since Mark Johnson roughed him up earlier in the season.

Lappo wasnt happy in that news thinggy when the reporters tried to get a comment from him on Fevs 3 year contract.
what Lappin must understand is the club does want to pay him pretty good money compared to how he has played this year.. but there is NO WAY he will get 3 years.

Said it before and will say it again. Sign for 2 Matty, and then if your form warrants it i'm sure you'll get your final year. Prove your worth to our long term success, don't just expect it.

Bloody oath.

Perhaps it might just scare him into some leadership.

Surely the first thing Pagan should say to Fevola is "GET A HAIRCUT".

Imagine the reaction from the supporters if Fev comes out next game with a mad stare and a crew cut. Watch out.
