Perfect example of how some players need time. This idea that young kids can come straight in to a side and perform at their best is a new one. Think about our great champions and the length of apprenticeships most of them served. Now there is so much media attention on the draft and quick fixes a player like Cooney can be deemed almost a failure after half a season!

That's right Blue Bird. How many games did the greaat Bruce Doull play in the Reserves before he got promoted to the senior team?

I thought you were being rhetorical. Eight. :P

Seriously, 50+ would be on the money.

Edit: Possibly Michael Tuck played close to 100 reserves games for Hawthorn?

Consistent game from Simmo...every one of his 13 possessions hurt the opposition - he had no clangers and showed the skill and class to make his teammates look ordinary. He had Aussie Jones moved off him he was being that problematic.

I agree Bluebird. That's why it staggers me that people are calling for players like Bentick to be axed. The kid has been in the system only 1 and 1/2 years and been on the senior list less then that. Still has a lot of development.

Kids who have been in the system less than 3 years I think need to be given a decent opportunity to improve and prove themselves

I noticed Aussie Jones was trying to rough the young fella up a little. Fall on him after a spoiled mark and bump him constantly. Did not seem to bother Simmo at all. Really looked like he belonged. Pace and skill.
I think he was 67 kgs when he came to the club and is listed at 76 now. Probably needs another 5 at least but is heading in the right direction.
Davies and Bentick are 2 other young players who should at least get 1 more year to show something.
Deluca also should be given another year.
Other players who are 25 plus and still not up to it are another thing entirely.
