I understand that Deluca could play the last 2 games of the season simply because if he misses the rest of the year due to injury it means the club will have to pay deluca a base payment next year on top of his contract. The base payment goes under next years salary cap therfore i doubt Setanta or Smith will get promoted and Deluca will play seniors before the season finishes

I thought the rule was to stop players with LTI's being delisted if they weren't contracted the following year.

That just doesn't make sense :?

The reason Nick Holland will not get a senior game with the hawks is that if he gets injured and is placed on the LTI the hawks will have to pay Nick about 400k base payment next season and its a risk they are not willing to take.

Ballistic,

What happens if he gets a serious injury playing for the Box Hill Hawks?

Thats crap. A player could have bypass surgery. It is the clubs decision whether or not he is placed on LTI. Also, if his contract finishes this year why would they pay him one cent next year.

Complete crap posted. I want this 35sec back

highly dubious......

my understanding was that a LTI listed player's base salary wasn't included in the cap for the duration of his injury.... thus allowing you to promote someone off the rookie list and pay them without exceeding the cap.... or something

the reason why Nick Holland isn't playing in the firsts is because he's:
a) craptacular
b) hated by Hawthorn for not retiring and handing back some of the $700,000 he's getting (a bit like "our Campo")

Gee, I want to be Fisher's manager

He was placed on the LTI list last year and obviously didn't return for 2 games at the end of it. That means he is paid his contract for this year AND a base payment on top of that this year. Wow

Could I suggest that this is the way it works:
* the LTI listed player's salary continues to form part of the TPP while he is on the LTI list.
* the promoted player's salary is not included in the TPP.
* at the end of the last game, everything returns to normal. The LTI player ceases to be on the LTI list (although he can be placed on the LTI list the following year if he will probably miss at least 8 games from Round 1). The promoted player returns to the rookie list unless the club elevates him.
