A strong Carlton means a strong AFL.

If the AFL lost one of the big four, they'd struggle.

The AFL surivive without Carlton, sadly for us. I hope it doesn't go pear shaped as it seems

The AFL wouldn't allow us to die, they would offer Millions to pay off debt and relocate to either Sydney....and become the Sydney Blues...

It aint going to happen but if it did I guess I'd keep an interest in the game. I've got family ties at Hawthorn so I guess I could be pulled in that direction. I'd never be a member again though, my heart just wouldn't be in it.

Would never happen... wed take over a neighbouring club and be called the North Melbourne Kangaroos...(the merger requires the colours blue and white to be worn by the club)

you're missing John Elliot....

He more than any of the above is to blame for the disgrace that is the Carlton Football Club, both on and off the field.

Im happy to be corrected on this point, but last time I looked, there were clubs with far worse profit and loss statements and balance sheets than Carltons.

We arent the best, but around the middle of the pack as far as financial health in concerned.

The drivers of any club extinction are primarily financial, but on field performances do feed into the financial situation over time.

1. An irretrievable financial position cheracterised by huge liabilities, neutral or negative asset position and a very bad current ratio - (which is a measure of the ability to pay outgoings as they fall due) Even then, I am aware of organisations with 60 cents available to fund each dollar of current liabilities manage to survive and regain financial strangth. Good financial management is essential though.

2. A series of bad deficits, that is deficits above 5% of gross income. These would destroy cash reserves and make a club a basket case - AFL competitive balance fund candidate.

I havent got the CFC annual report on hand, but if I did I could do an analysis of our financial position and soon tell you where we stand.

My feeling is that we might be not as flash as we once were and we have to be very careful with money, but we are no where near any kind of crisis that might threaten our existence. Thats not on anyones radar screen at all.

If you look at our situation, player wise, we certainly have the scope to undertake a major player overhaul of our list.

One would think that there would be a bit of 'bounce' results wise from this in 2006. This would mean that at worst we achieve a small profit to a break even performance, but still maybe ending up in the bottom 4 of the ladder.

Over the next 3 years or so, with somewhere between Average to Excellent recruiting, we should reasonably expect to be slowly moving forward financially.

Although things might bounce around from year to year, but a steady on field improvement after a rebuild would translate to OK to good financials at the end of say 2008.

A lot of things would need to go wrong all at once for us to fold, and there would be plenty of warning signs that a more transparent board would pick up on and bring to the attention of members.

The only possible area from which future financial difficulties would arise from would be the 'go it alone to redevlop Optus' thing, but theres no evidence of any mad or irresponsible financial descisions being made right now.

Certainly if we had continued with Mr Elliot and his brand of financial irresponsibility, yes we would have a good chance of falling in a heap, probably would have collapsed in 2003 or 2004.
With Johns illegal penchant for allowing companied to trade while insolvent, we probably wouyld have a club in 2005 if he was still president.

Thankfully though, but a lot of financial repair work has been done since the end of 2002. That will continue on and should hold us in good stead.

If this Nighmare came true, there would be no M.C.G or T.D because every Carlton supporter would tear the place down.

Ron Evans and Demitrispew Would be put flown out of the country. Hopefully we would get them before that happend

AGRO - maybe you should compare your list with Pagan's little black book - just to make sure you haven't missed anyone...

While it wasn't an insult to your mother, if you'd like to take it that way, then i have no objection. :D

However, your post is merely a sad reflection of the misguided belief of some few, that Carlton's current plight is not a direct result of its own incompetence, mismanagement, blatant cheating and fraudulent behaviour throughout the 1990s under the direct administration of one John Elliot.
