10 wins last year with no talent = wooden spoon this year.

God love those Dockers....flying!

If only those poor Eagles and Crows had a PP at some stage they might be able to catch the Mighty Dockers

Top 8
West Coast
Adelaide
St Kilda
Geelong
Sydney
Kangaroos
Brisbane
Melbourne

Of those, 3 have a wooden spoon and 3 have had a #1 pick in the last 15 years (excluding the great Steven Hooper) and not a great deal of PP's amongst them.

Tell me where early picks/PP's have guarenteed (guarenteed being =) premierships?

But what you dont UNDERSTAND IS ....... no club has been this devoid of talent since ummmmmmmm Fitzroy was on its last legs...
Even Freo was never this bad......

Coming second last is no help for us...
If we had come second last last year... and taken who Hawthorn did... and came second last this year wed have been better off..
But because we won 10 last year... we can now bend over and be banged by every club we meet.

Let me continue up this road.... just because you still dont get it!!!!...

We have won 2 games and drawn one... were lucky we arent sitting at the bottom with no wins and no points.

Is this a team that shouldnt get the best young player in the league and the best uncontracted player available???

You still dont get it do you?

We lost to the second last team ... by 4 goals and they had Crawford Brown Osbourne Mitchell and Bateman MISSING!!!!!!!

You dont think we NEED the best of whats available????

What youre saying is every year is an economic boom year.... and economic growth can be running at 6 % every year...when of course we know it doesnt.

Tell me they havent guaranteed them....???

Its not like those eras have expired.... now get back to me in 10 years ... after Kosi and Riewoldt have retired...
and Deledio and Tambling...

Why do you think its going to happen inside 4 or 5 years????

Let nature run its course before you blow smoke up your own arse...

Now tell me how we dont deserve to be the bottom side when we have won 2 games by an arse by less than a goal and drawn one...
with a percintage of 70 odd %
and tell me what our percentage has been over the last 4 years....

If you dont get it cos youre as thick as a brick were a SHIT TEAM!!!!!!... like no matter how much YOU PRAY AND HOPE AND cross your fingers..and how many times you hail mary.. carry a rabbits foot.. sacrifice pigs to pagan gods... were A SHITHOUSE BASKETCASE OF A FOOTBALL SIDE AND we NEED TALENT URGENTLY....

Is that hard for your pea brain to comprehend???

Or are you going to continue asking me dumb questions...????

you can no more say that 1st picks, PP's and the PSD will guarentee a premiership than I can say they won't in the future...except that the draft has been in effect for almost 20 years now

1986 Brisbane Martin Leslie
1987 Richmond Richard Louder
1988 Hawthorn Alex McDonald
1989 Richmond Anthony Banik
1990 Geelong Stephen hooper
1991 Brisbane John Hutton
1992 West Coast Drew banfield
1993 Sydney Darren Gaspar
1994 Fremantle Jeff White
1995 Fremantle Clive Waterhouse
1996 West Coast Michael Gardiner
1997 Melbourne Travis Johnstone
1998 Brisbane Des Headland
1999 Collingwood josh Fraser
2000 St Kilda Nick Reiwoldt
2001 Hawthorn Luke Hodge
2002 St Kilda Brendan Goddard
2003 Bulldogs Adam Cooney
2004 Richmond Brett Deledio

Now besides Headland playing in a premiership, Gardiner possibley playing in a premiership, Reiwoldt and Goddard maybe playing in one in the next few years its hardly been a guarentee.

But you know were the worst team in the comp right???
You aslo know all of those eams havent completed their ears of wooden spoons for picks and uncontracted players...

so its irrelevant if they have already won a premiership or not yet...

One thing is for sure all those teams have better lists than ours by miles.

Unless youre an ostrich...

How long do you need to go on accumulating?

'You haven't won a premiership in 30 years'
'Yeah we're still getting all our PP's and uncontracted players together.'

When did Geelong start? Are they ahead of us?

When did West Coast start? Does Banfield still count now he's almost retired? He must have really been a gun to guarentee them the 1994 premiership in his second season.

You know what i see from your list?

An improvement in the science of picking the players.

Each year shows an improvement in the quality of the first round pick. From 1993 on with exception of Waterhouse every player a 200 gamer!

I know that the draft can be a lottery but i would far prefer an early first rounder than taking my chances at the back of the draw!

It seems that some Carlton supporters cannot get it through their heads that the only way forward is the draft. The system is in place/like it or lump it!

You guys are arguing over nothing.

The fact is we are finishing last - whether you like it or not.

We will be getting the first pick in the draft - whether you like it or not.

The result from there is anyone's guess - but you would think being able to secure better players would have to help in the quest towards securing a more successful future.

Synbad and other supporters didn't make the team finish last - the playing personnel have done this of their own accord - whether by lack of effort or lack of talent.

Either way, we need to move forward.

Maybe we can go to the AFL and say we don't want our priority pick as we don't like the system and it's no guarantee of success.

They'd be happy to take it off us - AGAIN!

Note that all teams except Hawthorn, Bulldogs and Richmond (3 of the last four,) are playing or have played Finals.

It may not guarantee a premiership, but it seems to guarantee a march up the ladder.

When you have cancer and are very sick you dont go to the doctor and ask for the second best remedy in the hope you get better...
Its the best result for the club if you take away the emotion.. and were in no position to worry about being sensitive at the moment.

TrueBlueBrad, in short answer to your question (even if it was rhetorical):

"How long do you need to go on accumulating?"

In my opinion we need to hit the draft hard in both 2005 and 2006. Both National and Pre-Season drafts. If we do this properly (and have our player development sorted) then we should be able to rise properly - rather than just bumping ourselves up to 10th before falling again.

More pain next season, I'm afraid.

I don't mind as long as we are going forward.

Give me some hope......

Pick up twp of the best three young kids in the whole country and an uncontracted player..
Next year we will still be crap and hopefully they keep the priority pick as it is means that we have 2 cracks at some of the best young talent EVER!!!!.
If its taken away we still will have one of the first three picks at some of the best talent thats ever likely to be in the draft..
Plus we shall still have a heap of room in the salary cap... means that the talent pool is on the up...

From here on in its only a matter of time before we have enough to be a real power... but we need o pick up the best AND develop it.
