if we lose the PP then you can kiss the next 5 years of Carlton goodbye...

Yeah you're right...the club should just disband.

As a caller said on talk back radio after the game, if we don't get a priority pick at the end of the year it will be suicidal.

I will be ropable if we miss out on a priority pick.

Yeah it'll be like the end of the world...

So you really think we are that good that we don't need two talented youngsters in the draft next year?

I dont think that is the point. Just that we have some good young players coming through and we need to draft well this year for our future but the signs are getting a lot better.
We might win 2 more games and finish 15th and get pick 3 only if the Hawks not win 2 more also. That would not be a complete disaster if the form is like today. I would prefer us to win 1 more game and Hawthorn win 2 more and for us to get pick 1 and 2 and pick 1 in the PSD.
Just as long as we play good football and we lose 3 out of 4 by very close margins.

I think that most here would agree that we need them. If anything I reckon today just sealed the fact that we need them. We havn't been losing because we were tanking, we just havn't been good enough.

A talent injection is definately needed but today was great and I for 1 will enjoy it.

Who said anything about 1 instead of 2?
We were talking about winning games so that we miss the PP.

Pj we'd be "screwing ourselves" out of ONE talented youngster NOT two..

But I guess it comes down to interpretation. I don't see it as "screwing ourselves" out of anything...as I've gone on record as saying, I'd rather win the last 4 games and finish 7.5 wins. OK it won't happen but I'd go to the footy each time hoping that we won the given match.

We'd still get most likely a gun in the draft and finish the season on a really high note, I know you can dismiss wins at this stage of a season but I see more value in them, this side needs as many wins as it can get together, winning breeds confidence..

See this where we differ.

While I admit I enjoyed every minute of today's game, we need a heavy dosage of talent from this years draft, and next years and the year after that.
We need as many picks inside the top, say, 25 as we can get.

While the system is certainly warped, we have to take advantage of it as best we can.

You want a win every week. Well, as much as we need confidence right now, we also need talent and I'd prefer short term pain for long term gain and if that means losing every game for the rest of the season to gain that Priority Pick, then so be it.

I think we both agree we need the talent.
I doubt we disagree on that point.
But where we differ is how we go about getting that talent.
You're more content in going all out and trying to win as many games as possible thus potentially missing out on the PP and only draft the one youngster in the first few picks, where I am content onn going to the games, focusing on the kids and hoping they improve each week and not winning anymore games for the rest of the season thus landing us the PP and a shot at either Ellis or Murphy.

Am I right on where we differ in opinion?

i think you are right in more ways than 1 PJ...
you are right in the opinion difference...and your opinion is the right one...why would you want us to win the next few games for a bit of cheap glory and potentially ruin 5 years of glory if we miss out on a PP...? it just doesnt make sense to me...
only a few more weeks of losing and it will all be over, believe me...it will be worth it...

The world will re-align itself for the next four weeks and we will again be spanked every week.Port still aren't out of it and will not want to lose in consecutive weeks.
As long as it gets us a prized pick at the meat market. :D

My opinion isn't necessarily the right one, but it is the one I believe should happen.

Not sure about that.
Alot of us have been rambling on about the "playing for picks" topic for the last few weeks now.

Ellis OR Murphy pj? I thought that it was all about Murphy?

I guess where we ultimately disagree is that value we place on potential draft picks. You're more of a "if we don't get him, we're in real strife" person. You're not the only one and I don't mean that in a pejorative sense. I'm more of a "let nature take it's course, let's just wait and see what happens" type of person with regard to this issue. I see comments, not necessarily be you, but by others like "we're stuffed for the next 5 years if this or that doesn't happen" and I just don't know what to think. I can't for the life of me understand such a line of thinking.

I guess I'm just more positive than others. I would never think that any one player could possibly "save" or determine the future of a club. I don't get overly concerned over who we get in the draft, I won't slash my wrists if we don't get player A or B. The draft is a secondary consideration for me. I don't think of it much at all really. Certainly not at the games of footy. I'd rather try as hard as we can for 22 rounds, win as many games as possible and whatever happens, happens with regard to the draft at the end of the season.
