How about we compare them at the end of their careers?

How about we compare them as at the completion of their 3rd year:
Sticks: member of the 1986 GF team (runners up), captain of the 1987 premiership team, our leading goalkicker 3(?) years running, leader of our contested marks 3(?) years running.
Waite: member of the 2003 wooden spoon runners up, 2003 NRS nominee, member of the 2005 wooden spoon team, 2005 second on our goalkicking table.
We hope and pray that Waite can be a fraction of the player that Sticks was.
But that's the problem - you're comparing apples with oranges. Aside from the fact that they're playing different roles and the quality of the players around them is completely different the comparison you've made is between a physically mature player between 21 and 23 years of age with senior SANFL experience and a physically immature player between 19 and 21.
I don't expect Waite to be the player Kernahan was but I'm not going to pre-judge him either.
I don't think we'll know how good Waite will or won't be until he's 25-26.
