I'd like to see him at the other end of the ground where we can take full advantage of his accurate goalkicking prowess. Slot him in on a flank and let's see how he goes, my guess is that 45-50 goals per annum is not an unrealistic ask.

I beg to differ on this point, I don't think he is an accurate goalkicker.

Stevens is hardly the 'be all and end all' and yet he is our leading midfielder. There has got to be a message in there somewhere. 8)

Have you ever said anything positive about any of our players, other than "I positively hate him" or "he positively sucks"?

2) Thornton - what has happened to this guy??? Two years ago he was outstanding but, since his injury, he lacks judgement and is forever turning the ball over!

From the AFL record, Effective Kicks for 2005:

Code:
Thornton: 85.7%, the 2nd highest in the team (behind T. Longmuir 86.1%, ignoring J. Russell and S. O'Hailpin both on 100% from 2 and 1 kicks)

AFL defender average:  80.1% (and average for other positions under 80%)

When making statements such as the above, one should always refer to the facts rather than the emotions.

And re Houlihan, well I think he gathered around 10 contested possessions against the Swans, and is leading CFC disposals wih 71 (10 greater than anyone else) as of round 3. I guess that means he is not going too well.

I think Stevens is doing OK, probably a little overpaid but that's the way it goes the way the system is setup these days ... swings and roundabouts. He works hard most games, but sometimes the way he plays (and the team plays) he is vulnerable to the results of dumb team turnovers and fast break.

I think he is a good midfielder, who handles a tag better than Campo ever did, who occasionally puts in an absolute shocker like he did against Freo. Perhaps when we have more midfield depth the coach can recognise when this is happening and use him in another capcity in those games (forward pocket perhaps).

I think we will see the best of him when Bentick, Murphy, Simpson and co are a years or two older and it would be stupid to lose him now.

My one criticsim of him is that he sprays an awful lot of shots at goal.

Money is not an issue for me, we haven't had anyone better to give it to in the meantime. As long as he realises that his pay cheque will get progresseively trimmed back rather than inflated why on earth would we consider trading him.

Sure about that?

The way I remember it happening was Houlihan held us over a barrel and pretty much said "Give me X amount of dollars or I'm going to Melbourne in the PSD and you'll get nothing". We gave in to his demands and signed him.

Agreed to sign for less than Melb were offering & never wanted to leave.

Kicked 13.17 last year.
