VFL Grand Final 1972
ABC2, Wednesday April 5 2006, repeat Sunday April 9
In the VFL, the Grand Final was between two powerhouses - Carlton led by rugged captain-coach John Nicholls and Tommy Hafey's Richmond side. Each had won two premierships within the last five years. Carlton had been the form team all season, but Richmond were entitled to favouritism, having beaten the Blues both times in the regular season, and in the second semi-final replay. With brilliant forwards on each side, Alex Jesaulenko and Robert Walls, Neil Balme and Royce Hart, a high-scoring affair was anticipated.
