Should we use pick 1 in the PSD to get Thornton back if he's available?
Yes! He's been holding the backline together for the last 5 years almost single-handedly. 7%  7%  [ 4 ]
Yes. That will show other players that we mean business when it comes to contract negotiations. 63%  63%  [ 37 ]
No. If Notting's available, he'd do a better job than Thornton anyway 19%  19%  [ 11 ]
No. If McDonald is available, re-stocking our ruck department is more important short-term 12%  12%  [ 7 ]

If he went into the draft there is no way we could take him.

Why?

Well he'll agree to stay if Carlton say they are going to take him with the top pick. It would be pointless to go in the draft and then have to stay with the weight of costing us an uncontracted player around his neck.

I don't get all these people saying they wouldn't mind seeing him go to Ess via the PSD

I would absolutely spew if we got nothing for him, Sheedy rubs his hands together at a freebie Fletcher replacement & Thornton goes to the club he grew up supporting.

Let's hope we get something good for him in a trade, otherwise I really think if chucky's scenario came about we could work through it.

But no f*ing gifts to the Bombers!!

That's what I keep thinking of The Game when I go around the merrygoround of possible scenarios with Thornton.

The whole situation being caught up in the media certainly muddied the waters for all parties concerned. All the Dorks have to do is given us pick 6 and we're all happy.

Carlton is putting out fires, not knowing what the situation is (do we have him/ have we lost him? what do we get for him?) instead of focussing on an all out assault with the #1 PSD...enticing someone highly credentialled, as well as looking at all possible trades.

Thornton's manager would have seen this possibility (Carlton redraft Thornton through the PSD), coming too. Either way Thornton will get the money he was after....but the stench of having such a negative impact on the club, may convince him to remain at Carlton, or we get the right comensation for him for the Dorks or any other interested party.

I think in a way Carlton have told his manager that he's a required player, and that they'll draft him in the PSD. If not, they should. Saying that Thornton wants a fresh start is really a stupid thing to say in such a delicate situation.

I wish Thornton was worth a pick 2, 3 or 4....he's definetely worth pick 6.

Well we'll see what happens this week...it's going to be a long week for Blues supporters.

I think we should all repeat the following prayer before going to bed each night this week.

Our Father, who art in Blue heaven,

Trade week be thy Name.

Thy Thornton come.

Pick 6 thy will be done,

On monday or at the latest Friday.

Give us this week our daily news.

And forgive us our trade scenarios,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into the Pre Season Draft,

But deliver us from the Spew.

For thine is the kingdom,

and the Navy Blue,

and the White,

for ever and ever.

Amen.

Go Blues.

none of the above as I don't see it happening.

Hawthorn will have to offer us something good or he nominates for the PSD.

We get in his ear that we will re-draft him anyway so he might as well sign so we don't waste that pick. It would look good for all concern if he did that etc etc.

We keep Thornton AND get the best available player in the PSD.

This is the most likely outcome if a deal can't be done. We do our best to find an avenue to get him to the dorks or we say 'sorry mate, we tried they wouldn't play ball so now you go into the psd and we pick you up - or sign on the dotted for one more year and we'll assess in September 2007'.

He's still young and will most likely stay his entire career if we want him.

I want to know why, as a 5 year player and leader of the defense, hasn't he been included in the leadership group?? Is there something about him that is not great around the club??

Or is he another DP (the evil serpent) victim that everyone goes on about.

Why is he not in the 10-12 players on the membership material given that he finished 7th in the B&F and is one of the first picked every week.

The draft is never a sure thing Bondi, it pi$$es me off that we have to trade a young gun defender like BT. It's just ridiculous, he may not have been a top draft pick but he is every bit as important as Walker or Murphy.

The Game,

does Batman's bomb go off when a decision is made on Thornton, the end of the PSD, New years Eve, or the beginning of the 2007 season.

Bring it on
