The Game
Quote:
Well he'll agree to stay if Carlton say they are going to take him with the top pick. It would be pointless to go in the draft and then have to stay with the weight of costing us an uncontracted player around his neck.
That's what I keep thinking of The Game when I go around the merrygoround of possible scenarios with Thornton.
The whole situation being caught up in the media certainly muddied the waters for all parties concerned. All the Dorks have to do is given us pick 6 and we're all happy.
Carlton is putting out fires, not knowing what the situation is (do we have him/ have we lost him? what do we get for him?) instead of focussing on an all out assault with the #1 PSD...enticing someone highly credentialled, as well as looking at all possible trades.
Thornton's manager would have seen this possibility (Carlton redraft Thornton through the PSD), coming too. Either way Thornton will get the money he was after....but the stench of having such a negative impact on the club, may convince him to remain at Carlton, or we get the right comensation for him for the Dorks or any other interested party.
I think in a way Carlton have told his manager that he's a required player, and that they'll draft him in the PSD. If not, they should. Saying that Thornton wants a fresh start is really a stupid thing to say in such a delicate situation.
I wish Thornton was worth a pick 2, 3 or 4....he's definetely worth pick 6.
Well we'll see what happens this week...it's going to be a long week for Blues supporters.
