IMHO a co-captain situation takes the gloss & status from the position. I still like the romance, the history, the honour boards etc.
I'd give it to Lance solely for the next 3yrs. After this time he will be 30, & more importantly, it can then be given to Murphy at age 21/22?
I read the heading of that article - Whitnall THROWS HIS WEIGHT behind Fevola. I wouldn't think it was wise for him to being throwing his weight anywhere.
Did you say Whitnall will be at the Blues for three years???
I hope not - surely 2007 will be his last year at the club.
The only value I can see in him is if he stays on the forward line. That backline experiment of "showing leadership" on the backline was ridiculous and easily exploited by the opposition.
eg west coast game - whitnall did ok first half against hansen - so they bring on Hunter to destroy him. Pagan had no plan b for whitnall. too predictable.
It's because our Midfield got smashed!
P-leeeaseee why would 2007 be his last year?
For someone who is not a natural defender did a bloody good job!

I would give it to Sentanta personally. I think he killed Hall in that round 22 match. There is no room for whitnall in defence. One needs players with speed and agility. :
It would be great to play Waite at CHB. But can Waite play CHB? Question is will Pagan do it so Lance can play in the forward line? A loose role is teh way to go with Lance as he can certainly read and set up the play better than most in our team.[/quote]
Pagan actually said in one of the post game press conferences last season that he wants to try Waite at CHB, but the injury to Kennedy has delayed that.
Personally, I wish he'd have tried him there at the end of the season, could easily have moved Whitnall forward.
Waite has the size and athleticism to play CHB, and the discipline needed to play there may actually be good for him (in a similar way to the way it refocused Kouta in the late 90s). And if he could play the role, it would be a massive positive. We can afford to not have him forward, and it would release Whitnall to go forward (or play loose across half back). It would be another step to a strong, attacking backline, with Thorton, Setanta, and hopefully at least one of Hartlett and Bower giving height and size back there.
