So just remind me again why these new four are going to be absolutely woeful contributors, while we await our saviour, apparently that great communicator Colin De Lutis? Is it possible that these new directors have smarts and money? Is it possible that they may have ideas? Or do you have to be an anonymous mystery man poised to bucket in $8m to have any cred? If the alternative is Colin De Lutis (or that appears to have been yesterdays rumour) what has he got that these new four don't (apart for a track record as a director on the board that created this mess)? If there is some better alternative, then out your heads over the parapet. But it needs to be better, not just different. The main thing we need is $8m and if ODN is right about Donald Duck being the man, I'll vote for him. So Donald, show yourself and the money.

The first thing I will do as President is sack Denis Pagan. He's lousy, it's as clear as day.

The second thing I will do as President is bring back the Bluebirds. That'll increase membership among the notoriously stingy older male demographic.

The third thing I'll do as Pres is make the sausage sizzle guy cook bratwurst sausages, and not them crappy snags they currently cook.

Donald will come with money... powerful allies and a game plan that has been received by the AFL and the NAB... they have actually seen something in print by someone from Carlton (even if its unofficially Carlton).. which is more than the AFL and the NAB.. (THE ENTITIES KEEPING US ALIVE)....have seen from the current group....(NOTHING)

Have met 3 of the 4 before. My v basic impression:
MH - excellent football/sport knowledge, good networker, big carlton fan, bit of an ego.
ZF - genuine bloke, extremely generous with time & money + hard worker. not sure about his football knowledge.
SM - compulsive networker, get feeling he has his own agenda (which may or may not incidentally benefit CFC) - I am not convinced.

As I am new, I will declare my position: I am not pushing any barrow. We have become St Kilda. St Kilda are becoming what we used to be. I want a united board with the united & simple goal of getting this club back to the top on & off the field. I don't want a board made up of bits and pieces put together to shore up positions - that's how we ended up where we are after a motley crew was hastily put together to overthrow Elliot.

All very true.
But why dont we call an AGM and let the members decide?
New ideas are fantastic but democracy doesnt have to be thrown out to achieve it.
Perhaps if Smorgon concentrated on real issues instead of saving his arse, we would have an idea of when an AGM is due.

No - we are nothing like Fitzroy. Two good mates of mine played for the Lions - one from 1990-1994; the other from 1993 to its demise. From 1990 - 1996, the club went through various stages of not being able to pay their players. The club did not have a home. They were forced to do pre-season training in Bulleen and host practice matches at Skippers Reserve. There are clubs running around in the ammo's today that were better off financially than Fitzroy. Their problems were part historical and geographical being wedged in between the power clubs of Carlton and Collingwood. Their membership was never strong and the move to Brisbane should have happened in 1986 - instead they and their supporters had to endure failed mergers and numerous assasination attempts by the AFL before they 'merged' (debate for another area).

This hasn't and won't happen at Carlton. We are still wondering where the white knight will come from as everyone is aware that they are out there. But if you haven't realised it yet - you never will. They won't invest in Carlton while Graham Smorgon is there. The money is there - the plan is there, but the trust in the current administration is not.

The impetus is on YOU, the member to realise that your membership is more than just a seat at the Dome or the 'G. It's your voice and you should use it to full effect.

If you're not sure how to use it - it's probably because you don't know where to get the facts - I agree, it's hard. But based purely on the fact that those who have money are not willing to assist in the hour of need due to who's in charge - wouldn't you want to open up the possibility of a Pratt, Mitchell and Grollo signing a cheque or two ?

After all; I'm not sure Kate Ceberano or Vanessa Amorossi (Ralph Carr's only 2 clients) are going to have hit singles in America come 2007.

I dont know how you can keep adding board members without the general membership having a vote....I know little of these people or who they are aligned with or what their aims are.
We need a total cleanout and I mean total cleanout so there are no factions or aligned directors....I listened to Tom Elliott on SEN and was impressed with the way he spoke, but he is just another White Knight with a bag full of promises.
There are that many white knights, challengers, wannabes...I dont have a clue what their plans or aims are and how any ordinary member could make a educated vote is beyond me....I wont be voting for any white knights until I have all the facts.....

Thats all well and good but lets wait to see who is willing to publicly committ. This is a riduculous situation. Smorgon adding new unelected faces to the board 3 months before an AGM when a challenge is on the cards. Yet the challengers are happy to play Chinese whispers and expect that everyone will jump aboard without any names or platform being put forward.

I'm sure it will come out before the AGM. Just don't expect people to commit to a group that has no names or policy

5 years ago when the club was in turmoil they searched high and low for their White Knight . The best they could come up with was Ian Collins who had another agenda to move the club to help pay off the AFL debt at Telstra Dome.

Now Five years down the track we are seeing names pop up all over the place any one who has worn a Navy blue suit in the past has his named linked to Carlton as either a potential savour or running for the Board

Why?? ask yourself Why . Why would anyone want to be associated with what is perceived to be a Basket case with no hope . Why would the high fliers of business want their name linked to the Carlton Football club.

Why - Because the club has been through the worst - They have now 6-12 of the best up and coming players in their side . The only way for Carlton to go from here is up. Captains of business like to be associated with winners everyone of these names being thrown up wants to be known as The Man the one who took the team from its lowest point and took them back to the top.

Smorgan keeps saying it is on field success that will turn this club around. Matheson has publicly stated they are doing the best they can considering their finances .

This is why Smorgan is shoring up his position . this is why so many names are being thrown up.

There is no White Knight . The White Knight is on field success and the person who is in charge when the on field success occurs will be perceived as The White Knight
