Lets face the facts people. No one is knocking on the door of Optus Oval saying "I really want to coach this team". Denis is what we need right now. An experienced coach who has proven himself before, someone who doesn't listen to the haters, someone who can take the crap but still be around because he is in for the long haul. The man knows what he is doing, and he is easily the best coach we could ever possibly hope to find in our current situation.

Look I'm more than happy for Denis to continue, but I'd love to see a more attacking mindset. I'm sick of our guys running up the ground to have no-one to kick to.

He won't go anywhere, the arguments against him are all over the place..

i.e. the main arguments:
"We can't afford to pay him out, but we cant afford to have him stay with memberships going down etc etc"

then the main choice for his replacement:
BARRY MITCHELL

I like BM too, love watching him speak in the bullants games but he's not exactly going to have carlton supporters kicking down the doors at OO trying to get their memberships.. Or throw sponsors into a bidding war..

I think it was GWS who said we had to give him until the middle of next season. I'm with him on that one.

We'll show some promise later in this year, but still get some good picks again, then if we arent starting to get it together by the middle of next season Denis will lose me.

For the record I don't want Pagan sacked either.

But I still think you're a troll

i hope that if ballistic blues returns he suffers a career ending hand injury that renders him unable to copy and paste text.

I support Pagan over Mitchell. I don't think sacking a coach because of a second half fade out is realistic. After round one some people here were very happy, after the Port Adelaide practice match loss not so. The point is should Pagan have been assessed on last year, or the year before when we won ten games? With the list issues I don't think so, so why go backwards. "Rivalry" aside on Sunday we lost four points the same as against the Hawks, Tigers and Dockers. The first half againt the Dockers wasn't great either.
This year albiet with a face-saving chip style game, we have only majorly erred in one game of five. Sure we're one and four but so are other teams and we have been competitve given our list. Lets see this week against Essendon*, if put in a shocker then fine, but you don't drop 1.5 million plus by sacking Pagan on a half of football you look pretty financially incompetent. We all agreed this year he got the picks, now we can expect some improvement, Murphy aside none have hit the park. Ok Kennedy played his first game Sunday (probably against DP's will and underdone). The Hawks haven't even unwrapped the presents in Ellis, Dowler, Muston or Bailey.
Patience until the end of the year, and barring a public player revolt he should stay, in the off-season we negotiate his "retirement", and then we look for a real replacement. Just grabbing Mitchell is like choosing a girl at a nightclub at four in the morning to be your wife. Apologies to the romantics out there.

it was 7 am and it was over a pool table and we've been at it for over 15 years and still going strong. Nothing wrong with 'desperate romance' 8)

Great post, Bookie.

Nice to see that some people are trying to look at the big picture, rather than respond in a knee-jerk fashion.

Having an opposing view is not necessarily reacting in a knee jerk fashion.

I simply believe it would do our long term prospects a lot more good, both on and off the field to be rid of Pagan's game plan as soon as possible. If he changed his game plan to suit our list over the remainder of this year, then I have no problems with retaining him for his contract.

I simply no longer believe he is capable of building a team that can play offensive footy to win games and bring supporters back. Moreso, I don't believe he is committed to bringing through the kids.

I'm not from the Zac Dawson school of thought, but I'd prefer to see the Russels of the world get more than one or two games and be dropped. We are gaining nothing from Pagan playing Jordan Bannister and Sporn and the like it what should be clearly a development stage.

Pagan is simply flooding to stem bleeding, salvage his reputation by snagging a victory here and there.

He says 90% of football is played above the ears - I now believe his negative message is sinking in.
