I support Pagan over Mitchell. I don't think sacking a coach because of a second half fade out is realistic. After round one some people here were very happy, after the Port Adelaide practice match loss not so. The point is should Pagan have been assessed on last year, or the year before when we won ten games? With the list issues I don't think so, so why go backwards. "Rivalry" aside on Sunday we lost four points the same as against the Hawks, Tigers and Dockers. The first half againt the Dockers wasn't great either.
This year albiet with a face-saving chip style game, we have only majorly erred in one game of five. Sure we're one and four but so are other teams and we have been competitve given our list. Lets see this week against Essendon*, if put in a shocker then fine, but you don't drop 1.5 million plus by sacking Pagan on a half of football you look pretty financially incompetent. We all agreed this year he got the picks, now we can expect some improvement, Murphy aside none have hit the park. Ok Kennedy played his first game Sunday (probably against DP's will and underdone). The Hawks haven't even unwrapped the presents in Ellis, Dowler, Muston or Bailey.
Patience until the end of the year, and barring a public player revolt he should stay, in the off-season we negotiate his "retirement", and then we look for a real replacement. Just grabbing Mitchell is like choosing a girl at a nightclub at four in the morning to be your wife. Apologies to the romantics out there.
Great post, Bookie.
Nice to see that some people are trying to look at the big picture, rather than respond in a knee-jerk fashion.
