What do we do if Plans A, B, C or D don’t come to fruition very soon? IE: (A) If the AFL doesn’t assist us, (B) Big Bruce doesn’t set up a legacy that we may earn from, (C) Carlton Memberships go through the roof & (D) Dick says “Here’s a lazy 10Mill. Pay me back when you canâ€

Your concept, BrizzyBlue, is pretty good except for one fundamental flaw.... You over-estimate interstate fans propensity to watch football that doesn't include the 'home' side. Your number of ex-pat Victorians in SEQ is a nice stat, but how many are Carlton supporters? How many are die-hard AFL fans that would watch ANYONE?

I like the idea that you put forward, but I think that your three Gabba 'Home' games needs to include Brisbane and the other two need to include other Victorian teams.

I'll pick two from the Dome list.... St Kilda and Melbourne

Also, you need to be thinking about futher seasons as well - I don't think you can keep playing the same 7 clubs twice in one year...

I hope this is seen as constructive criticism and not just shitting on a new idea... i like the concept and I would rather have us get ourselves out of the mess than take a hand-out.

Mind you, we would be a lot better off if we could hand over the lease to PP (apologies to the new sponsor)...

I wonder if our board/whoever is in charge is thinking about an independant feasibility study rather than just running with any old (or new) idea?

BrizzyBlue....I'd like to be one to at least say I appreciate all of the thought and work you've put into your post.

Have you submitted these thoughts to the Club?

So far the response has been very positive from posters on the 4 sites this is on. I will wait a bit to see the overall reception and any tweaking. I have a contact within the club who I have known for 30 years who is always prepared to listen. It goes without saying that I get plenty of inside info from him from time to time, but apparently they believe the AFL will bail us out. I actually argued the point with him the other night that we need to think outside the square and be proactive. Whilst he agreed, he said that they were extremely confident that the tide would turn in the next month or so. I am not as confident as he was.

Irrespective of whether there is an announcement pending or not, I'll do this up in a pdf type document and shoot it in, Warbs. Can't hurt..... 8)

When TV games were first shown in SEQ, we were the most shown due to our drawing power and onfield success at that time. Carlton almost became the unofficial SEQ pet team. I evidence this by games that we have played up here since the Commonwealth Games Exhibition game. Our support at Carrara and Gabba games far exceed any other visiting club. In fact in that rotten losing Qualifying Final at the Gabba in 96, we had almost equal support to the Yogi's. I believe we were the club that they played against when the ground record was smashed in 98/99 (not certain of season) before the ground upgrade and beat that again when the capacity was lifted. Make no mistake we are extremely popular up here. I would go as far as saying more popular than the Pies or Bombers. 8)

I still reckon we could get by by playing the Interstaters. Why give the Brions a free kick by playing them? They already have 12 games at the Gabba now. By playing the Aints or Dees, that would just mean less games in Melbourne though.

I have been working on a draw spread over 5/6 seasons to balance things out a bit. It's looking pretty good ATM. I think we could sell it to the AFL. Same concept, but just what they would consider to be a fairer draw for all concerned. 8)

terrific post Brizzy, it is nice to know that some people actually care about the club still, even though it doesn't seem to be Carlton anymore.

I think your plan has some real merit (not Roger) in it, even if the crowds were low we would have the AFL and various state governments involved to safeguard against poor attendances.

The in-equality of the draw is a major bug bear of mine, I actually bought this up with Andrew Demitriou once at a function and got the usual crap about number of teams and blah blah blah.

If we can use the in-equalities to our advantage it would be a masterstroke, essentialy this is what you are stating is it not?

Was trying to, athough some people have taken it the wrong way, but we get stuff all to games against the Interstate teams and lose money to boot. Why not turn lemons into lemonade, grow our brand, steal a march on the opposition, make the Interstaters travel further and satisfy the AFL and Qld Government all at the same time? 8)

One thing I don't understand is why would we wanna play at stadiums that only seat 6-15K people. We have a massive following. Lets turn this to our advantage. :)

Thats where you made a mistake, I wouldn't have bought it up with Demetrispew I would have brought it up ON Demetrispew - an unobtrusive drinking straw around the epiglottus region would be all that was required - the dry cleaning bill would have been worth the result.

God damn BB, we have to get you on the board.

I really like this idea.

Good work, as usual.

Hey Benny, Remember this?

I hate the idea of giving any other club an advantage, thats why I think we need to be proactive and make some sensible decisions for our future. Maybe we need to do something really radical, like after the AFL assistance issue is resolved and big Bruce throws in a few loose mill, and we shame 5,000 members into re-signing, we could steal a march on the rest of the competition. Hmmm (Gunna work on a fixturing idea that just might bail us out). 8)

This thread is the start of it. I am currently working on a fixture draw over 5/6 seasons to add to the proposal. Lots of fun let me frigginwell tell ya!! Not... :?

Yeah BB, you always put in the hard work, and I almost feel it's wasted on these message boards. I think i'd sleep easier at night if I knew the board was considering, or at least had suggested to them, ideas of this ilk.

Interesting reads too.
