What I hated about this game was the neutral feeling of apathy that I felt at the end of the game. I didn't really care that we lost and when we were winning there was a nagging feeling that this was actually going to hurt the club rather than help it. There's something seriously wrong with the current system but I can't help but feel that we desperately need that help.

It says how many people participated in the survey, I didn't suggest it proved any point did I? Just found it interesting. A lot more people see the reality of the situation than you think

interestingly enough andain..thats the exact way i started out...but when i started saying that i got beaten form pillar to post and ended up defending myself as well as defending the "tanking"...i got insulted so much that i got dragged down by the system and am now one of its highest "supporters" ....

i dont like losing..i am a very competitive sportsman. but at the moment my head is stronger than my heart, and as i said...the system has won me over...

Mate, the only reason you got beaten pillar to post was because of the manner in which you were posting.

You put yourself in it.

Perhaps it's not the strength of the head rather the weakness of the heart.

Did you get that from a Hallmark card?

camel for a time I gave up, I could feel myself drifting away but the last couple of weeks I've thought 'no its a supporter thing' the club are working just as hard as if we were 12 wins.

Then i worried about this week cos i knew of carlton showed up and played shithouse, or played well for a half and then played shithouse, well I'd feel that emptiness again and know it is all bullshit and that might just have been the end of the ghost- see contrary to some I actually really love this game, more than carlton in fact. just as i love cricket more than Australia.

I alluded to this with John when I said I felt the SAFL we deliberately changing our culture. I still believe it. But I think Carlton are staying true. I think today they played the entire match to win. In the last quater a couple fo decisions went thewir way that if they had have (and could have) gone our way may have changed the result. We played to win.

I am happy with that.

Plus Denis pointed out the age. Go through the record he said 'check the players, have a look how many are 23 or under. I count 20. 20.

Regardless of what people may or may not think, pivcks or no picks etc. There is a strength gathering at Carlton.

This system is stupid and if the AFL decided to get sane today I'd accept it because I do think we are gathering a talented list together. With or without the stupid PP's.

You of course are aware that the above makes absolutely no sense at all.

no im not aware of that...because i understand what i write...but let me dumb it down...

Deano's Heart= Passionate, strong, determined, loves winning and is used to it - will not accept defeat
The Shag's Heart= passionate, loves winning, hates losing - will accept defeat if it means it will help us...

my heart is "weaker" if thats the word you must use, but i think being able to think logically in times of victory and times of despair is a greater asset than acting on passion and riding a wave of emotion...

Anyway, if we do happen to get the wooden spoon, we shouldn't refer to it as the wooden spoon, because it is not wooden, if the 2005 spoon becomes ours we should refer to it as - THE DRAFT PICK SPOON - and consider it as something to wave to the AFL and say,

"Look you bastards, we've got the best draft picks!"

Haha, that's an interesting slant on the current situation I guess.

Its not just the wooden spoon...its the set of steak knives that come with it.

Welcome to the Demtel AFL

Yes, it was weird. I was cheering the boys on like most supporters around me but at the same time worrying about the draft picks....

The system could be fixed easily:

1) PP only for a team with less then 10 wins over 2 seasons or the PP at the end of the first round of picks.
2) Split draft rounds into groups of 4. Pick 1-4, 5-8 etc. Then a lottery where the bottom 4 teams draw for the first 4 picks, then next 4 teams for 5-8 etc. This way there is still incentive to win games late in the season and bottom teams get relatively better draft picks.

Well it's unfortunate you're interpreting it that way mate.

How are you interpreting it?

People aren't taking joy in losing as you put it...they're excited about getting the best available elite young talent to help get us back to being a consistantly winning footy team as soon as possible.

And they're willing to sell their souls to do it.

If your little sister needed quick cash, then you'd be happy for her to lie on her back in order to get it as soon as possible?

Sorry Budzy, but I'm not 100% convinced that it is me who is naive.
