Well it's unfortunate you're interpreting it that way mate.

How are you interpreting it?

People aren't taking joy in losing as you put it...they're excited about getting the best available elite young talent to help get us back to being a consistantly winning footy team as soon as possible.

And they're willing to sell their souls to do it.

If your little sister needed quick cash, then you'd be happy for her to lie on her back in order to get it as soon as possible?

Sorry Budzy, but I'm not 100% convinced that it is me who is naive.

Hates losing yet will accept it.

Why am I the only one struggling with this????

youre missing the key part of the sentence...

"but will accept it if it means it will help us..."

Selling your soul.

There is a bit of cash in male prostitution Shag - you should look into it. A young lad like you could make some good dollars.

deano, i like you..and i dont want to argue, but your comments like that really arent helping.
i am not selling my soul..
i wasnt affected by a tragedy as you have been, so my love for carlton is simply from watching a dominant winning side...not from a loving brother's legacy...(if thats the right word)....you barrack for the blues in a different light as me. im guessing that every time you watch the blue boys you think of your brother. when i watch the blues i think of seeing a perfectly structured winning side (1995 granny was the first game i remember) turn to crap. i want us to win again because i want to see carlton as it should be...and you want to see carlton winning for other reasons. the way you see it i am "selling my soul" because you have seen and done so much as a carlton supporter..and also because you had so many good memories with your brother and you want him to be proud of carlton. i also want him to be proud of carlton, but i dont him...i dont know you....
Deano, to me this is just a sport and winning is good...losing is bad. to you it means so much more. however...i have my whole life ahead of me to feel the passion and pride of carlton that you feel. i am yet to experience first hand what it feels like for winning to be so much more than winning. i dont know what winning feels like to you. to me winning is getting the 4 points and bragging to my friends at school. hopefully as i grow older it becomes much more than that.....but right now i just want whats best for the club...

Deano, you got room on your bandwagon for me?

Remember what I said sometime around round 6?

I don't usually post, I'm a lurker, preferring to read other supporters opinions.

I am, however, a member. And barring some major commitment I have gone to every home game for about the last 5 years.

But now, it just doesn't hold the same appeal for me. The system is just so sanitised, I understand that not winning gives us potentially two of the best kids in the land instead of one and that the best way to go forward is to bottom out - but it doesn't mean I can enjoy watching us lose.

So I haven't gone to the last 3-4 home games, I've had other things on, but I just don't feel so complelled to make sure I get there.

Watching us lose is awful, but going to a game knowing that the best thing we can do is lose is just not what I bleed navy blue for.

The system is just so flawed. The best example of this is St Kilda. They are an awesome team at the moment - because they layed down, were not competitive and took spoon after spoon.

This is not what I grew up loving. Something must be done.

Outstanding post Motts and proof that lurking is not for you. Summed up a thousand posts perfectly.

I feel a schism and it's making goo of true support. I concur with Deano and The Game that it is completely out of whack to want anything other than to want the Blues to win week in in, week out, year in, year out. But I've got a 'but' now...and the 'but' is, well...this isn't a true competition anymore.

I know I don't love the Blues any less, ( I hope  ), but, since when has an administration pumped their scaly dicks into clubs as whores, (favoured and non-favoured), ever? It's just crap, a river of crap with a footy oval floating ontop of it...

Oh and hey here is a team that's really bad...so let's pat them on the back for that, (never mind, boo-hoo, lots of presents, St.Kilda): let's give them an incentive for their loserdom. But if you want to fight that from a pride stance, well here's mid-table at best and stiffest cheddar to you and your pride.

Schism. Skzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzm.

I was disappointed that we lost today, during the game I was willing the boys to get over the line. Now that we've lost, and Collingwood have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory keeping them in PP contention I feel sort of benign about the whole thing.
Next week is going to be ever stranger.

The heart says that its never good to lose.

The head says that the pathway to a team that resembles the Carlton I knew, the Carlton that was always a chance for a flag is to bottom out and get a priority pick.

The head also says that a win in the 3rd last round of the year isnt actually going to mean a lot apart from a good feeling for a (rather short) while.

This compares to wins we had when we were in the finals or a finals contender, wins at these times mean a lot more than a win when you are sitting 16th on 3.5 wins and threatening to crack 4.5 wins.

In many ways, the script played out very well today though, still have PP, still in box seat for 2 first round draft picks, but were gallant in defeat, plenty of spin in that along the lines of great team effort, boys are showing improvement, hard work paying off, but the team still needs strengthening, need draft picks etc. Head pretty much in control here

Mind you, when it comes to Collingwood though, the heart will take over and I will want a win. Beating them at any time means a lot.

Difficult week next round for me....

I almost got into a fight with an opposition supporter( Carlton supporter) :P

Seriously though.. this is junk time.

I enjoyed watching the kids as the game was played on the backs of them... BUT were miles away from being a side that can be really competitive when it counts.
Until were there i wont be happy with pinching MEANINGLESS games.
I cant wait to have some more real talent added to the kids we have.
What they need is more ELITE talent.

The system is stupid but id want to milk it whilst it is the system.
I dont feel guilty about wanting to lose because i know were better off for it.
To lose an early pick now is like another Black Friday.
I was rapt with losing....!!!

i love you synbad...you are untouchable...no-one will dare take you on...and you share my exact opinion...what is the point of winning a few cheap games when we could easily add some quote: "elite talent"...unquote
you all say that you want to beat collingwood and/or Essendon* cause they are the rivals....what would be more satisfying..the 99 prelim..or beating them in as synbad says...junk time...?

For me, today was the perfect result.

Our players showed plenty, they pushed hard, played well in every type of condition under the sun, against a side that - in form or not - was studded with premiership players.

Losing this one doesn't worry me at all. I'm far more upset about the cricket than todays game.

They live day to day... you cant live your life day to day...

There has to be some kind of semblence of a plan that is designed for you to be the best at whatever you do.
Nothing in life comes free... theres a price to everything.
To be a top side you must pay by taking your medicine.
IKts weird watching Malthouse and Sheedy as well as Pagan devastated in losing..... but thats why theyre on the helm of three of the worst clubs in the competition.
Youre playing a game with loaded dice.
You cant beat the bank!!!!

StKilda won 30 wooden spoons in 100 years so for them it was easy to loiter at the bottom to take full advantage.
For us and clubs like Collingwood Essendon* its hard to get our heads around it... but thats the system.. thats the dice were playing with.. and the quicker we can get our heads around it the quicker we will get to our next premiership...

We were slow to use the draft and the salary cap because we preffered the old ways... Well the old way doesnt work... but there is a new way.

The new way rewards you for being exactly where were at right now...!!!

Stupidity fights it.

Rapt with the kids and looking forward to adding to them and going forwards.

Fancy Ryan spewing Kouta wont be captain next year and asking why????

Well Ryan .. why should Kouta be captain next year???
Captained us to a wooden spoon and we need to go forwards.!!!!!!

No reason to live in the past.. theres a whole new world out there.. let go of your security blankets and have a red hot go at turning the club around into a powerhouse and if taking a step backwards gets you there quicker.. so be it!!!!

ABOUT the ridiculous system that makes some supporters want to lose more than win - melancholy about our team losing -I dont like losing - melancholy that it will take a few more years of pain for us to travel back to the top.
However having said that today in losing we saw some character spark pride and some hope with a very inexperienced team on the park- today we played 4 quarters pushed Port all the way - lost because of some inexperience - unlike some losses this year today gve you hope -some reason to be optimistic for the future

A game is meaningful when you can feel better for a week...and then get bent over again the week after and come back to earth with a thud.
This can happen to us as long as its happened to the swans if you dont use the system...

I cant understand how people cant think long term.. its really knocks me over to think people can just worry about ONE weekend and not a generation...

That is one of your better posts at explaining your position big guy.

Wouldn't say I like it, or that I agree with it 100%, but it's one of your better explanations.
